Lakewood, NJ (5-16-09) - Ben Fish hit a three-run home run as part of a 19-hit attack by Keystone, as the Giants downed the College of New Jersey 11-3 in the loser's bracket final of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Keystone, which imporved to 40-5 overall, advances to the regional final against Kean University at 4pm. The Giants must defeat Kean today and then turn around and do it again tomorrow in order to advance to the Division III World Series.
Bret Repard worked a complete game for the Giants, as the senior hurler moved to 10-0 on the year, tying the Keystone single season mark for victories in a season. Repard allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Ryan Smyth, Jayson Rohena and Jimmy Ferraro all knocked three hits each, with Rohena and Ferraro driving in two each.
Keystone used a pair of big innings to decide the game as the Giants pushed across five in the third and four more in the fourth to aid in the win.
Kyle Conrad, Eric Groff and Ray Jackson all added a pair of safeties in the win.
The Giants manufactured a run in the first as junior Ray Jackson singled, stole second, moved to third on a long fly out, before scoring on a base hit by Eric Groff for a 1-0 edge.
Keystone scored five times in the third when senior Ben Fish provided the big hit with a three-run home run to left increasing the difference to 6-0.
In the fourth, the Lions got onto the scoreboard as Ryan Anzelone laced a single into right that brought home junior Chris Esperon who led-off the inning by reaching on an error.
The Giants also scored in the fourth plating four more runs and another in the fifth making it an 11-1 game.
In the four-run fourth, senior Jayson Rohena junior Jimmy Ferraro and Jackson each had RBI singles, while Rohena added another RBI single in the fifth inning.
TCNJ's Vince Mazzaccaro put two more runs on the board for the Lions in the sixth drilling a two-run homer to left making it a 11-3 contest.
Rohena finished 3-of-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Fish was 2-of-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Mazzaccaro finished the game with three hits, drove in two and also scored a run, while Esperon scored twice.
