Meletiche, Giants blast Neumann

Boyertown, PA (5-8-09) - The road to the 2009 Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball championship goes through Keystone, as the Giants, the only 2-0 team after early round play, will host the CSAC title game on Sunday at 10am vs. Neumann College.

Keystone advanced to the title tilt with a 21-7 thrashing of Neumann College, as the Giants, who are ranked fifth and ninth in the latest division III baseball polls captured their 24 straight game.

The Giants improved to 36-4 with their two wins in Boyertown.

The team's 20-hit attack was highlighted by Esteban Meletiche's five-for-six day at the plate.  The slick fielding shortstop and 2009 CSAC Rookie of the Year, put on a clinic at the expense of the Neumann Knights.

Meletiche drove in six and scored four times as the Philadelphia native blasted two home runs and two doubles.  His two round trippers were part of a five home run game by the Giants, as Ryan Smyth added a pair with Ray Jackson sending another into the night.

Meletiche also added three hits with two runs scored and an RBI in the opener.  In two games he is 8-11 with seven runs batted and six runs scored.

Smyth drove in four and scored three with his offensive output, while Jayson Rohena scored four times as part of a three-for-four day.

Eric Groff, Ben Fish and Angel Fargas each collected two hits each, with Groff knocking out a pair of doubles.

Keystone scored in all eight innings in which they came to the plate, with a pair of six run outbursts in the fourth and sixth leading the way.

Sean Murphy worked six innings to earn the victory.  Murphy allowed two earned runs while striking out five.
