Giants end up on short end of offensive slugfest

Radnor, PA (1-14-10) - For the second time in 10 days Keystone College and Cabrini College battled on the hardwood in CSAC men's basketball action.  In their first meeting Cabrini came out the eight-point winner as the teams combined for 178 points.

Thursday evening they did it one better.  Cabrini used a late run to overcome a double digit deficit to squeak by Keystone 100-98 in the offensive shoot-out.

With the win Cabrini moves to 11-1 overall, while remaining perfect in the CSAC at 6-0.  Keystone falls to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The Giants had built themselves an 11-point lead, 92-81, with 4:56 remaining in the contest and appeared to be in control.  However, the Cavaliers strung together a 14-3 run over the next 3:06 to knot things at 95 with 1:50 left to play.  That marked the ninth tie of the game

Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) put the Giants back up by one with 1:42 to play after hitting one of two free throw attempts.  Cabrini responded by taking its first lead since the 17:06 point of the first half when Kevin Misevicius connected on a jumper.

Keystone would wrestle the lead back one more time with 1:22 to play when Hardnett converted a pair of free throw attempts.

Misevicius would prove to be the Cavaliers go-to-guy down the stretch as he put Cabrini ahead to stay on a lay-up with 32 seconds to play at 99-98.

With 20 seconds to play the Giants had a chance to take the lead back, but a missed shot and a Cabrini rebound sent play back down the court.  With 11 seconds to play the Cavaliers Dom Farrello converted just one of two free throws giving the Giants a chance.  However, the Giants could not get a shot off during their final possession.

It's not often that a team will score 98 points and end up on the short end of the scoreboard, but the Giants did nearly everything right on Thursday.

While going out to a 50-46 lead at the break, Keystone shot 63% (17-27) from the floor, while holding Cabrini to 44.4% (20-45).  However, what stands out was the Giants accuracy from beyond the arch, as Keystone shot 81.8% (9-11) from three-point range for the half and 68.8% for the game.  For the game Keystone shot a season best 62.5% from the floor, while the Cavaliers managed just 44.6%.

However, it was Cabrini's ability to convert free throws that proved the difference.  The Cavaliers shot 79.2% (19-24) for the game, while Keystone struggled at 58.6% (17-29).

Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick) led five Keystone players in double figures, as the sophomore recorded his second consecutive 25-point game.  Boone tied his career high on 9-12 shooting, while adding seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) hit for 22 en route to his sixth double-double on the year by adding 10 rebounds.  Hardnett, who was 8-10 from the floor, turned in a solid game by adding six assists and a career high six blocks.

Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) added 16, while Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added 14 points, 12 coming via the three.  Troy Robinson (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Park) rounded things out with 12 points.  Robinson dished out a career high seven assists, while adding four rebounds and a pair of steals.

Cory Lemons hit for a game 34 points to lead the Cavaliers.  Misevicius added 24 and Brandon Carter 14.

Keystone will return to action on Saturday at 3pm when they travel out of conference to Lancaster Bible.
