La Plume, PA (2-22-10) – Keystone, which finished the regular season with an overall mark of 18-7 and a CSAC record of 13-5, will play host to Neumann University in a CSAC semi-final on Wednesday February 24 at 7pm. Neumann, the third seed, advanced to Wednesday's tilt with an 81-75 come from behind win over sixth seed Centenary College in the quarterfinal round.
The Giants and Knights met twice during the regular season with Keystone taking both meetings. The Giants took a three-point affair at Neumann on January 11, 74-71 and a 30-point contest at home on January 30, 75-45.
Cabrini College (22-2, 16-1), the top seed in this year's postseason, will host Wednesday's other semi-final contest against Immaculata University. The Mighty Macs advanced with an 78-72 win over the defending CSAC champs Gwynedd-Mercy College.
The CSAC title game will be played Friday February 26 at 7pm at the highest remaining seed.
In their first meeting with the Knights,
Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick) netted a career high 25 points to lead three Giants in double digits.
Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) added 15 and
Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) 10.
In the second game it was the long ball that carried Keystone, as the Giants hit 13 times from beyond the arc.
Spencer Lunger (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock) led the way with 18 points, all coming via the three ball, while Hardnett added 14 and Boone 10.
Keystone's five conference losses consist of a pair of defeats to both Cabrini and Immaculata and the road loss at Gwynedd.
Last season the Giants entered the postseason as the third seed, after a quarterfinal victory over Centenary College, the Giants fell just short of reaching the title tilt, falling at Cabrini by two points.
This season the Giants have assembled a balanced attack, with four players averaging in double digits, led by the sixth ranked scorer in the CSAC in
Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) and his 15.4ppg. The other three Giants who are averaging double digits also rank among the conference leaders, with
Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) 14th (12.7ppg),
Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) 18th (12.1ppg) and
Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick) 22nd (10.4ppg). As a team the Giants are fourth in scoring at 76.0ppg.
The old adage is that offense sells tickets and defense wins games. If that holds true during the postseason, then the Giants will be a dangerous team, as Keystone leads the conference in scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of 66.3ppg.
The team is also ranked at or near the top in several other categories, including: field goal percentage (2nd, .453); field goal defense (2nd, .413); three-point field goal percentage (2nd, .362); blocks (1st, 92); steals (2nd, 9.8spg); turnover margin (2nd, +3.52); and made three's (1st, 205).
As a result of Hardnett's top five placement in scoring, the sophomore from Florida is tops in the CSAC in field goal percentage, shooting a stellar .622 from the field. He also leads the way on the boards in the conference, cleaning the glass at a clip of 10.4rpg. He is also averaging 2.0spg to round out his season box score, which is good for fourth.
Teammate
Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick), who has been as dominant as anyone during the second half of the season, leads the conference with 51 blocks, while shooting 50% from the floor.
The Giants are also a threat from long range in the form of seniors
Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) and
Spencer Lunger (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock). Lunger, who has hit 44 treys on the year, is the all-time Keystone leader from beyond the arch, while Luce, who leads the team with 77 trifectas, leads the CSAC in made three's and three-point field goals percentage (.428).
While also being the team's second leading scorer,
Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) has turned in his usual solid brand of basketball as one of the team's leader. The junior from Michigan is also second on the team in assists and steals.
