Jackson, Smyth carry Giants over Gwynedd

Gwynedd Valley, PA (3-28-10) - Ryan Smyth cracked a first inning three run home run as part of a four run first and Ray Jackson also went deep as part of a four RBI afternoon, as Keystone rolled past Gwynedd-Mercy 13-3 in CSAC baseball action.

With the victory the Giants move to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC, while Gwynedd-Mercy falls to 10-7 and 4-2.

After splitting a twin bill with the Griffins the day before, the Giants wasted little time in this one making a statement early with four runs on four hits in the opening inning.

Keystone would extend the lead to 5-0 in the third when Smyth's sacrifice fly plated another run.  They added two more runs in the fifth on just one hit, as Eric Groff scored on a failed pick-off attempt and Esteban Meletiche scored as part of a double steal.

The Griffins would cut into the Giants lead in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three times.  Keystone would get one back in the next inning when Brian Del Rosso singled and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Giants would put things away with a five run seventh inning that was highlighted by a two run shot by Jackson.

Sean Brewer worked six innings to pick up the victory allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

Jackson finished the day with four hits to lead the Keystone 14-hit attack.  Del Rosso, Meletiche and Andy Vega all recorded two hit games.

The Giants will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Rutgers Newark for a non-conference game.  The contest will be played at Bear Stadium in Newark.
