Keystone continues assault on Immaculata

La Plume, PA (4-24-10) - A day after recording a 16-8 victory over the same Mighty Macs, the Keystone College baseball team continued its assault on Immaculata University with a doubleheader sweep, 14-7 and 17-7

The Giants, who have won 13 of their last 14 games, improved to 20-6 overall and 13-2 in the CSAC, while Immaculata fell to 11-21 and 5-10.

On the day the Giants belted out 33 hits, 18 of which were extra base hits.  Keystone had the power stroke going with five home runs five triples and eight doubles.

In the opener Keystone, who was actually the visiting team in the twin bill, scored 13 runs over the first four innings, putting up two runs in the first and second, before adding four in the third and five in the fourth.

Ryan Smyth, Yazy Arbello and Kory Leicht each picked up a pair of hits in game one, with Smyth homering and Arbello and Leicht adding doubles.  Esteban Meletiche homered, while Eric Groff added a triple to his box score.

Meletiche, Smyth and Leicht all drove in a pair of runs for the cause.  

Mike Hanley worked four innings to move to 6-0 on the season.  The lefty allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five.

In the nightcap the Giants scored four times in the top half of the first and then put things out of reach with an eight run third inning.

Andy Vega led the Giants with three hits, a total that included two triples.  Vega also drove in two and scored twice.

Meletiche, Edwin Padua, Groff, Smyth, Arbello, Roberto Santana and Leicht all picked up two hits in game two.  Meletiche, Smyth and Donald Reese all went yard, with Padua and Groff joining Vega with three baggers.  Smyth raised his home run total to a team high 12.

Arbello doubled twice, with Smyth and Vega also adding the extra base hits.

Smyth knocked in four, giving him 36 RBI on the year, also a team high.  Meletiche, Padua, Reese and Vega all drove in a pair as well.  

Sean Murphy worked six innings to earn his third victory of the season.  The senior allowed seven hits, but did not allow an earned run due to five Keystone errors in the game.  He also struck out four.

The Giants return to action on Tuesday at 3:30pm when they travel to Bucknell University to battle the Division I Bisons.
