Errors costly as baseball drops season opener

Hampden-Sydney, VA (2-17-12) - Keystone College committed three errors that led to four unearned runs, as the Giants dropped their season opener, 7-4 to Southern Virginia University at the Ty Cobb Classic.

Blaine O'Brien worked four innings of seven hit ball in absorbing the loss.  O'Brien allowed all seven runs, of which only three were earned.  He also struck out four.

Esteban Meletiche and Frank Mormino each picked up a pair of hits as part of Keystone's nine on the day.  Meletiche also drove in one and scored once.

Gabriel Molina went deep in picking up the Giants first home run of the season.  Gaston Rojas also doubled for Keystone.

Juan Arroyo drove in two as the Giants struggled to bring runners around, leaving 14 men on base for the game.

The Giants jumped out first with three runs in the second inning, with Meletiche driving in one with a base hit and Arroyo two more with a single.  After Southern Virginia plated one in the bottom half of the inning, Molina got it right back in the top of third with his blast.

Southern Virginia responded by pushing across three in each of the next two innings.

The Giants return to action on Saturday when they face off with the host school, Hampden-Sydeny, at 11am.
