Hampden-Sydney, VA (2-18-12) - Rob Rogers tossed five innings of two hit ball as Keystone College knocked out a dozen hits as the Giants downed Hampden-Sydney College 7-1 in the Ty Cobb Classic.
With the victory Keystone moves to 1-1, while Hampden-Sydney falls to 3-4.
Rogers struck out eight and walked just one in earning the win.
Brian Del Rosso and Miquel Castano each knocked out three hits, as Castano also drove in two and scored twice. Frank Mormino drove in two in the winning effort.
Zach Duffy worked two scoreless winnings, striking out four, while not allowing a hit. Adam Krebs tossed the final two innings for the Giants, allowing one run and striking out three.
After three scoreless innings to start the game, the Giants plated two in the fourth to grab the lead. Gabriel Molina reached after being hit by a pitch and came around to score the first run on a Mormino sacrifice fly. A Castano RBI single scored Lymel Guerrero to make the score 2-0.
The Giants would add a single run in the sixth as an Andrew Siano hit brought around Castano. Hampden-Sydney would score in the eight to cut the Keystone lead to 3-1 heading into the final frame.
Keystone would score four times in the ninth to break things open as a Mormino double and a Castano base hit would plate a run each.
The Giants were scheduled to play Stevenson University on Sunday, but due to weather concerns in the area that game has been cancelled.
