Cavaliers rally late to claim CSAC crown

Radnor, PA (2-24-12) - Cabrini College used an 18-9 run over the final 5:02, sending the Cavaliers to an 86-79 victory over Keystone College in the title game of the 2012 CSAC men's basketball championships.

Sixth ranked Cabrini, which receives the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, moves to 26-1 on the year, while Keystone falls to 21-6.

The Giants must now wait until Monday to learn as to whether they will receive an at-large bid.

Malcolm Boone netted a game high 24 points to lead three Keystone players in double digits.  Boone also grabbed seven rebounds, while picking up seven blocks.

Mike Kelly scored 20 points to go with six boards, while Kenneth Hardnett added 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Jeremy Knowles led the Cavaliers with a 20-point night, while Aaron Walton-Moss turned in a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

The Giants shot nearly 50% for the contest, while Cavaliers struggled at just under 40% for the game, including just 23% from beyond the arc.  However, it was the lack of accuracy from the free throw line that proved to be a game breaker for the Giants, as Keystone converted on just nine of 21 attempts, while Cabrini hit on 17 of 22 tries.

Cabrini also owned a big advantage on the glass, out rebounding Keystone 55-44, pulling in 28 offensive rebounds along the way.

The Giants led for the most of the opening half, eventually taking a one point led into the break.  Cabrini would switch roles in the second half, as the home team held the upper hand on the scoreboard, building a seven point lead mid-ay through.

The Giants would erase the deficit, knotting things at 66 with 6:51 to play.  A Hardnett lay-up and a couple of Boone free throws would give the Giants another lead with just over five minutes to play, but the Cavaliers bounced back again, this time for good, converting free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
