Gwynedd Valley, PA (3-23-12) – Andrew Siano blasted an eighth inning grand slam as part of a five run frame, as Keystone College downed Gwynedd-Mercy College 8-4 in the CSAC opener for both teams.
With the victory the Giants move to 8-3 overall and 1-0, while the Griffins fall to 8-8 and 0-1.
Siano's one-out blast to left gave the Giants some breathing room, breaking open up a one run game at the time.
Zachary Duffy picked up his first win of the season, as the junior worked seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five.
Siano finished the day with two hits and four RBI.
Esteban Meletiche,
Austin Straub and Miquel Castano all finished with two hits each, as part of the dozen that the Giants knocked out. Meletiche tripled and doubled with two runs scored. Castano doubled twice and scored a pair.
Gabriel Molina also homered on the day, while also driving in two.
Castano and Tyler Caserta started the eight by reaching base safely, via an error and a bunt single. Pinch-hitter Joshua Paradoa drew a base on balls to load the bases for Meletiche. Meletiche reached safely on a throwing error by the Griffins third baseman, as Castano scored on the play, setting the stage for Siano's blast.
The Giants posted single runs in the each of the first three innings to grab the early lead. Meletiche led off the game with a triple and came around the score on a throwing error for Keystone's first run.
Castano doubled in the second and came around to score on a Chris Bzozowski two-bagger. Molina's home run accounted for the Giants third run.
The Giants and Griffins will get back at it again on Saturday as Keystone welcomes Gwynedd-Mercy in a noon doubleheader.
