Meletiche, Rogers help Giants cage Cougars

Swoyersville, PA (4-18-12) - In a much anticipated battle between two of the top ranked teams in Division III baseball, the result turned into a one sided affair, as sixth ranked Keystone College scored early and often in a 16-1 rout of 12th ranked Misericordia University.

With the victory, their 14th straight, Keystone moves to 24-4, while Misericordia falls to 26-6.

Rob Rogers worked seven innings of three hit ball to earn the win.  Rogers allowed just one unearned run while striking out four in moving to 6-1 on the year.

Keystone scored in every inning except the sixth and ninth innings, as the Giants racked up 16 hits.

Esteban Meletiche carried a big stick for the Giants, as the senior turned in a 4-7 day with two home runs.  Meletiche knocked in six and scored four while leading the offensive assault.

Chris Bzozowski also added the long ball to his line, homering in a 1-3 effort, while driving in three and scoring twice.

Lymbel Guerrero added a three hit afternoon, which included a pair of doubles, scoring three times in the process.  Andrew Siano turned in a 2-3 game, picking up three RBI, while also walking twice.  Frank Mormino also added a pair of hits while driving in two and Brian Del Rosso scored three times on the day.

In addition to their double digit hit total, the Giants took advantage of four Misericordia errors and eight hit bats men, four of which came in the eighth inning.

The Giants started with a four run first, highlighted by a three run blast by Bzozowksi.  A Gabriel Molina single in the second would score Tyler Caserta as Keystone made it 5-0.  They would add three more in the third, with two runs coming on Meletiche's first home run of the game.

They would tack on another in the fourth on a Mormino single that brought around Bzozowski.  The Giants added a pair in the fifth on a Siano two run single that plated Meletiche and Del Rosso.  After a single run in the seventh, Meletiche provided all the offensive production in the eight with his second home run of the game, this time a grand slam.

The duo of Adam Krebs and Derek Alex worked a perfect eighth and ninth, with each picking up a pair of strikeouts.

Keystone will return to conference play on Friday when they travel to Centenary College for a 3pm game.
