Giants Close Spring Break Trip With 4-3 Win Over Messiah

Meszoros goes eight strong innings; Guerrero drives in winning run in ninth

Ft. Pierce, FL – Keystone College closed out their Spring Break trip in Florida with an exciting, 4-3 victory over Messiah College on Thursday afternoon.  The Giants finish the trip with a 6-3 record after winning their fourth game out of their last five contests and improve to 11-4 overall with the win while the Falcons fall to 3-7 this spring.

Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Domenick Montanaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) scored on a Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) double and Riscica came around to score on a Messiah error.  The Giants pushed their lead to three runs in the fourth inning when Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that allowed Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman) to score.

The Falcons took advantage of several Keystone miscues in the eighth inning to tie the game, scoring two runs off of errors by the Giants and one on a passed ball.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) reached on a base hit and was pinch run for by Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)).  Catherina then stole second before Guerrero drove him home with the go ahead run with an RBI single.

Michael Meszoros (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) went eight strong innings on the mound for Keystone, scattering four hits, walking one, and striking out three before Adam Krebs (Commack, NY/Commack) came on in the ninth and struck out the side to seal the victory for the Giants.

Montanaro and  Riscica had two hits apiece to lead Keystone's offense while Gurman stole a pair of bases and Montanoro added one swiped base.

Keystone will take on 8th ranked Kean University on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in a single game in Union, NJ.  The Giants are looking for their first victory over the perennial national power in their 15th game against the Cougars.
