Giants Suffer 4-1 Setback to Susquehanna

Keystone will face Albright College in doubleheader on Sunday

Ft. Pierce, FL – Susquehanna University rode an outstanding pitching outing from Casey Hood on Saturday morning on their way to a 4-1 upset victory over 13th ranked Keystone College in non-conference baseball action.  The Crusaders improve to 3-8 on the season with the victory while the Giants fall to 7-2 heading into Sunday afternoon's doubleheader against Albright College.

Hood went 8 2/3 innings and allowed just four Keystone hits while striking out nine batters and surrendering the lone Giants' run.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Dan Glassmire hit an RBI single, but Keystone leveled the contest in the third inning when Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) hit an RBI single to right that scored Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman).

The Crusaders went back in front in the home half of the inning though with a pair of runs as Bryan Palsi and Chris Ryan both recorded RBI base hits.  Susquehanna then added an insurance run in the fourth inning with Nick Kennedy recording a single to right that plated the Crusaders' fourth run of the contest.

Keystone threatened in the ninth inning as Austin Straub (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) both drew walks, and Gurman reached after a wild pitch following a strikeout with two outs, but Matt Smith came on and got the final out on a fielders' choice.

Kennedy led Susquehanna with a 3-4 day at the play and two runs scored while Glassmire and Ryan added two hits apiece.

Michael Meszoros (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) struck out nine batters in seven innings of work on the mound for Keystone while allowing nine hits, two walks, and four runs while suffering the loss.  Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning in relief that included one strikeout.

Guerrero, Rojas, Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac), and Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) accounted for the Giants' four hits on the day while Straub added a stolen base in the loss.

Keystone returns to the diamond on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Albright that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Ft. Pierce, FL.
