Keystone Blanks Marywood 8-0 at PNC Field

Molina drives in four runs; Giants’ pitching allows just three hits

Moosic, PA – Gabriel Molina (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) went 3-4 with four RBIs and Keystone's pitching staff allowed just three hits to lead the Giants to an 8-0 victory over Marywood University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball game played at PNC Field on Saturday afternoon as part of the Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend.  Keystone, currently ranked 13th in the nation, improves to 20-7 overall and 9-1 in conference play while the Pacers fall to 6-14 this spring and 1-8 in the CSAC.

The Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Saturday's game as Molina hit an RBI single to center to bring home Austin Straub (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), who reached with a one-out infield single.  Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) followed with an RBI base hit to center that scored Gabriel Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Perkiomen School) before Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) singled to left to plate Molina.

Keystone made it a 4-0 contest in the top of the third inning when Guerrero brought home Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman) with a two-out base knock to left field.

Marywood put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Giants' starter Rob Rogers (Islip, NY/Islip) worked out of the jam by getting a strikeout followed by a fielder's choice to end the threat, and Keystone would add a run in the visitor's fifth when Gurman scored on an RBI groundout by McLaughlin.

Keystone put the game out of reach by putting up three runs in the top of the sixth inning as Molina stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a double to the left-centerfield gap to clear the bases, scoring Gurman, Kevin Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)), and Miguel Castano.

The Pacers loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Rogers got an inning-ending groundout and after Marywood loaded the bases again in the ninth inning with one out, reliever Robert Minaya (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) struck out the final two batters to preserve the shutout.

Rogers turned in an outstanding start for Keystone, scattering three hits and walking a pair of batters while striking out nine Pacers in seven innings of work.  Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) walked one and struck out one without allowing a hit in a scoreless eighth while Minaya closed out the game by walking two and striking out a pair of batters in the ninth inning.

Molina's 3-4, four RBI performance led the Giants offense and the senior also scored a run.  Guerrero added two hits and two RBIs, McLaughlin drove in two runs while Gurman scored three runs to lead the Giants offense.

Russell Baldino suffered the loss for Marywood after allowing four runs on six hits in three innings of work.  Joseph DiLoreto surrendered four runs on three hits in four innings of work while Billy Kelly pitched two perfect innings for the Pacers, who got singles from Thomas Richards, Daniel Hull, and David Maione in the loss.

Keystone will host Centenary College on Sunday in a single conference game scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
