Centenary Scores Pair of Second Half Goals to Down Keystone, 2-0

Coon makes six saves in loss to Cyclones

Hackettstown, NJ – Samantha Sysak scored a pair of second half goals to lead Centenary College to a 2-0 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Centenary's J.E. Reeves Turf Field.  The Cyclones improve to 5-7-1 on the year and 4-2 in conference play while the Giants drop to 3-7-2 this fall and 1-3-2 in the CSAC.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play as Centenary held a 6-2 advantage in shots for the period with a slim, 3-2 edge in shots on target.  Offerings by Keystone's Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) and Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central) were both saved by Cyclones' goalkeeper Megan Williams while Giants' net minder Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) stopped all three shots she faced in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Centenary broke the stalemate in the 51st minute as Sysak took a pass from Becky D'Angelo and beat Coon for the game's first goal.  The hosts maintained the one-goal lead until the 83rd minute when the Cyclones were awarded a penalty kick after a Keystone foul in their own 18-yard box.  Sysak stepped up and converted the penalty kick for her ninth goal of the season to give Centenary the 2-0 lead and some breathing room.

Williams made six saves to earn the shutout win for the Cyclones, who held a 16-6 advantage in shots for the game while claiming a slim, 3-2 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

Coon suffered the loss despite making seven saves while going the full 90 minutes in goal for Keystone.

Moranski led the Giants with three shots on goal, Ehrhart finished with two shots on goal, while Shauna Menzella (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) added a shot on goal for the visitors, who had their winless streak pushed to five games.

Keystone will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday afternoon with a CSAC game at Baptist Bible College.  Opening kickoff between the Giants and Defenders in slated for 3:30 p.m. in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
