Clarks Summit, PA –
Jem Crockford (York, England/Sparta) scored midway through the first half off an
Olivia Kashuba (Dickson City, PA/Summit Christian Academy) assist and the Giants defense made it stand as Keystone College edged host Baptist Bible College, 1-0, in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. The Giants improve to 4-7-2 overall and snap a five-game winless streak with the key conference win that puts Keystone at 2-3-2 in league play.
Both teams took three shots apiece over the opening 24 minutes of play before Crockford was able to break the deadlock in the 29
th minute. Kashuba slipped a ball into the penalty for Crockford which the junior collected, spun free of a defender, and ripped a shot past Defenders goalkeeper Katelyn King to give Keystone the 1-0 lead.
Crockford's goal was her fourth tally of the season while Kashuba's assist was her third helper of the season. Kashuba leads Keystone in scoring with 15 points this fall while Crockford ranks second on the team with 12 points.
Holding the one-goal advantage going into the second half, Keystone stepped up the pressure looking to add some breathing room, but was unable to do so despite holding an 8-3 advantage in shots in the second half. At the other end, the Giants defense and goalkeeper
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) were able to keep the Defenders off the scoreboard to record the team's first shutout of the season.
Keystone held a 13-6 advantage in shots for the game though the visitors were only able to place four of those efforts on frame. The Giants also doubled up the Defenders in corner kick opportunities, 4-2.
Coon earned the clean sheet after finishing with two saves to post the fifth solo shutout of her career while King finished the contest with three saves for Baptist Bible, who fell to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the CSAC with the loss.
Kashuba and
Shauna Menzella (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) took three shots apiece to lead Keystone's offensive push while
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Aberdeen) and
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) took two shots each in the win.
Keystone will host Rosemont College in another key CSAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. as part of this weekend's Homecoming events on the turf field in La Plume.
