Pomona, NJ – Samantha Barcia scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Richard Stockton to an 8-0 victory over Keystone College in the Giants final non-conference field hockey game of the season. The win lifts the Ospreys record to 6-7 on the season while the Giants fall to 2-13 overall heading into three crucial Colonial States Athletic Conference games beginning this weekend to wrap up the regular season.
Stockton jumped out to a 1-0 advantage just 3:04 into Tuesday night's contest when Barcia opened the scoring by tapping in a pass from Averi Olive. The Ospreys doubled their lead in the 18
th minute of play on Barcia's second tally of the game, as Barcia found the back of the cage off of a Leah Davies assist.
The hosts pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 21
st minutes when Laura Olbrich knocked home a crossing feed from Grace Kinney before Elisha Hartman gave Stockton a fourth marker in the 27
th minute with Barcia assisting on the goal and the Ospreys would enjoy the four-goal cushion at halftime after outshooting Keystone 9-1 in the opening 35 minutes of play.
Stockton looked to add on to their lead in the 39
th minute, but
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) stopped Barcia's penalty stroke attempt, the third stroke that Hawkins has saved this season. Just moments later though, Barcia would complete her hat trick by knocking in a shot off her own rebound before Colleen Knight blasted home a shot from the top of the circle off an Olive assist to push the Ospreys lead to 6-0.
Emily McNeill got into the scoring in the 50
th minute when she wristed home a shot for Stockton's seventh goal of the game before Sarah Gawrysiak made it eight off a Lindsey Treptow helper to close out the scoring.
Stockton held an 18-3 advantage in shots for the game while generating 16 penalty corner chances to two for Keystone.
Liz Stankiewicz was credited with the win in goal for the Ospreys after making one save in the first 41:19 while Sara Winters made two stops in the final 27:19 of action.
Hawkins and
Amy Denmon (Beaumont, PA/Lake-Lehman) made two saves apiece while splitting action in between the pipes for Keystone.
Kaelyn Englert (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton),
Diandra Sherman (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock), and
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) accounted for the three shots for the Giants in the loss.
Keystone will host defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday in a CSAC game scheduled for 11:00 a.m. as the Giants kickoff Homecoming Weekend games on the turf field in La Plume.
