La Plume, PA – After conceding a goal in the first minute of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer game against visiting Rosemont College,
Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central) and
Jem Crockford (York, England/Sparta) scored goals to lift Keystone College to a 2-1 victory over the Ravens. The Giants improve to 5-7-2 overall and level their conference record at 3-3-2 while the Ravens fall to 8-5-2 this fall and 5-3 in league play.
Rosemont jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into Saturday afternoon's game when Kerri-Gene Lussier picked up a loose ball in Keystone's penalty area and ripped a shot past Giants goalkeeper
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) to give the visitors the early edge.
Keystone answered in the 13
th minute, with Ehrhart netting the equalizer on a spectacular strike. The sophomore won a 50-50 ball 30 yards from goal and fired a long-range shot that sailed over the outstretched arms of Ravens goalkeeper Jenna Kaiser and into the back of the net for Ehrhart's fourth goal of the season.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime with Giants doubling up the Ravens in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, 6-3 while generating two corner kicks in the period to none for Rosemont.
Keystone would take a 2-1 lead exactly four minutes into the second half when Crockford corralled a long restart from
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Aberdeen) and slipped a shot past Kaiser for her fifth goal of the season. The goal would also prove to be the junior's second-straight game-winning tally for the Giants.
Lussier looked to bring Rosemont back level in the 58
th minute, but her shot on a partial breakaway was denied by a diving, fingertip save by Coon.
The Ravens continued to push in search of the equalizer and held a 9-1 advantage in shots in the second half, but the Giants defense, led by Lewis,
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area),
Aileen Yaeger (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford), and
Barbara Burns (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional), along with substitute
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical), were able to keep the visitors at bay while Coon finished the contest with four saves to earn the win.
For the game, Rosemont held a 12-7 advantage in shots along with a slim, 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Kaiser suffered the loss in goal for the Ravens after allowing two goals and making one save in the full 90 minutes of action.
Keystone will travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon to take on Cedar Crest College in a CSAC game scheduled to kickoff at 4:00 p.m. The Giants will be shooting for their third-straight conference win to move closer to their first-ever berth in the CSAC playoffs.
