La Plume, PA – Visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University won the decisive fifth set of Friday night's Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball match at Keystone College 15-12 to pull out a thrilling, five-set victory over the Giants in a key conference tilt. The Gators lift their record to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in the CSAC while the Giants slip to 9-13 on the fall and 3-5 in league play.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with a 25-16 win in the opening set before Keystone leveled the match with a 25-23 decision in the second set. The Gators went back in front with a 25-18 win in the third frame, but the Giants again countered, this time with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set. The hosts were unable to complete the full comeback though as Notre Dame took an exciting, back-and-forth fifth set, 15-12.
Marylu Ortiz led the Gators with 16 digs while finishing with a double-double after picking up 10 digs on the night. Ashley Pasker collected 15 kills while Jamie Reyes dished out a match-best 40 assists while contributing 14 digs to notch a double-double of her own. Cleaya Antes had 15 digs to lead the Gators, who posting a .193 hitting percentage for the match.
Reyes, Ortiz, and Taylor Manger had three service aces apiece for the visitors in the win.
Ciera Scepaniak (Vestal, NY/Vestal) posted her fourth double-double of the year and her third in the last four matches for Keystone on 11 kills and 10 digs while
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) led Keystone's attack with 17 kills.
Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) added nine kills and three blocks in the defeat for the Giants.
Carol Mosier (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the hosts with 32 assists and finished tied for a match-high with 15 digs on the night to set a new season-high while posting her second double-double of the fall.
Dana Carey (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) was the third Giants player in double-figures for digs after picking up 13 for the match as Keystone held a 65-54 advantage in digs over Notre Dame.
Devin Breese (Susquehanna, PA/Susquehanna Community) led the Giants, who hit .263 on the evening, with two service aces while
Anya Cerniglia (Great Meadows, NJ/Hackettstown) added nine digs in the loss.
Keystone will be back in action on Tuesday evening in a crucial CSAC match at nearby Baptist Bible College. First serve between the Giants and Defenders in slated for 7:00 p.m. in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
