Sugalski’s Late Goal Helps Giants Salvage Tie at Cedar Crest

Sophomore scores in 84th minute off Kashuba assist in 1-1 draw

Allentown, PA – Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) scored in the 84th minute off of an Olivia Kashuba (Dickson City, PA/Summit Christian Academy) assist to helped Keystone College salvage a 1-1 tie at Cedar Crest College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.  The Giants are now 5-7-3 on the season and 3-3-3 in conference play heading into their final two games of the regular season.

Keystone, who played to their third, one-all draw of the season, must win at least one of its two remaining games against Cabrini College (Saturday) and Marywood University (next Thursday) and get some help to qualify for the conference playoffs.

Cedar Crest (4-11-2, 2-6-1 CSAC) opened the scoring just 6:16 into Tuesday afternoon's contest as Kim Barry found the back of the net after taking a feed from Kelsey Snavely to give the hosts the early advantage.  Keystone doubled up the Falcons in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, 6-3, but was unable to find the equalizer before the halftime break.

In desperate need of points to remain in the playoff hunt, the Giants pushed numbers forward in the second half and were finally rewarded on their 13th and final shot of regulation when Kashuba slipped a pass to Sugalski, who beat Cedar Crest goalkeeper Nalani Velasquez for the tying goal with 6:57 left in regulation.

Sugalski's goal was her first of the season and the sophomore's sixth of her career.  Kashuba's helper was her fourth of the year and the junior leads Keystone in scoring with 16 points.

The Giants held a slim, 5-4 advantage in shots over the two overtime periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net with a game-winner.  Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central)'s shot in the 98th minute was the only effort either team was able to put on target in the extra 20 minutes of play, but Velasquez was there to make the save.

For the game, Keystone held an 18-12 advantage in shots while Cedar Crest held a slim, 3-2 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) made six saves in goal for the Giants while Velasquez finished the day with eight stops for the Falcons.

Keystone will return home on Saturday afternoon for a CSAC game against Cabrini.  Kickoff between the Giants and the defending league champion Cavaliers is set for 12:00 p.m. in La Plume, Pennsylvania.
