La Plume, PA - Leading 1-0 at halftime, defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Cabrini College used three second half goals to pull away with a 4-0 victory over Keystone College on Saturday afternoon, eliminating the Giants from CSAC playoff contention. The Cavaliers improve to 11-6 overall and a perfect, 10-0 in conference play while the Giants fall to 5-8-3 this fall including a 3-4-3 record in the CSAC.
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) kept the game scoreless with a great diving save just over ten minutes into Saturday's game, coming over her line well to cut down the angle before getting a hand on Melissa Scanzano's shot. Cabrini would break through in the 15
th minute of play though as Dana Peterson collected a ball 22 yards from goal and found the back of the net with a shot to the far post to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 advantage.
Keystone nearly equalized just moments later when
Lauren Nardelli (Eynon, PA/Valley View) played
Olivia Kashuba (Dickson City, PA/Summit Christian Academy) in a on a short breakaway with a nice thru-ball, but Cabrini goalkeeper Alivia Dietsch denied Kashuba's shot with a sliding save.
Cabrini outshot the Keystone 14-4 in the first half, but only held the slim, 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to Coon, who made six saves in the opening 45 minutes of play including of the spectacular variety to keep the hosts within striking distance.
The Cavaliers doubled their lead at 2-0 in the 59
th minute when Meghan Martin took a feed from Kaitlyn Cooper and ripped a shot from eight yards out into the top of the net. Cabrini pushed their lead to 3-0 just 2:12 later when Taylor Tralie ran onto a thru-ball from Devon Miller and beat Coon for the visitor's third tally of the game.
Scanzano capped the scoring with just 61 seconds to play, running onto a long ball over the top of Keystone's defense from Kerri Hinkelmon and converting the breakaway chance.
Cabrini finished the afternoon with a 25-7 advantage in shots while doubling up the Giants in corner kick chances, 4-2.
Dietsch picked up the win for the Cavaliers by making a pair of saves over the first 69:24 in goal while Marissa Jenkins also made two stops in the final 20:36 in goal for the visitors.
Coon suffered the loss in goal for Keystone despite turning in a solid, nine-save effort in nearly 73 minutes of action before being relieved by
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington), who played the final 17:01 in net without making a save. The Giants also had a ball cleared off the goal line by a defender for a team saves.
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) led the hosts with five shots in the game including three efforts on target.
Keystone will close out the 2014 season on Thursday afternoon when they host Marywood University in a CSAC contest scheduled to kickoff at 3:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
