Baltimore, MD –
Bianca Dolac (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) recorded seven points on two goals and school record-tying three assists to lead Keystone College to a key, 6-2 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Giants improve to 3-14 overall on the season and keep their CSAC playoffs hopes alive with their 2-4 mark in league action.
Should Immaculata University lose Tuesday afternoon's home game to Notre Dame, Keystone's regular season finale on Wednesday's at Marywood University would be a winner-take-all game with the victor earning a spot in the conference playoffs. A win by the Mighty Macs, coupled with a Keystone win at Marywood, would create a three-way tie for the final playoff spot that would then be determined by the conference's tie-breaking criteria.
On Saturday, Notre Dame (3-9, 1-5 CSAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead 8:15 into the contest when Kelsie Jones scored off an assist from Katelynn Olson. Keystone responded with their first of four straight goals just over seven and a half minutes later when
Alissa Nugent (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored her third goal of the season off a Dolac helper to level the score.
Briana Sotiropoulos (Waterford, CT/Waterford) put the Giants ahead in the 29
th minute of play with her second tally of the season with Dolac again setting up the goal.
After holding the 2-1 edge at halftime, Keystone extended their lead to 3-1 5:36 into the second half when Dolac hit the back of the cage after taking a pass from
Rebecca Dempster (Boonton, NJ/Boonton). Jones got one back for the Gators just 1:20 later, netting her second goal of the game off a feed from Erika Deppenschmidt to cut the host's deficit to 3-2, but Dolac netted her second goal of the game and fourth of the fall in the 46
th minute to restore Keystone's two-goal cushion.
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) scored her fourth goal of the season off of Dolac's third assist of the game in the 68
th minute before
Diandra Sherman (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) closed the scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the year which came unassisted with 57 seconds left on the clock.
Keystone doubled up Notre Dame in shots for the game, 14-7, while holding a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners for the contest.
Amy Denmon (Beaumont, PA/Lake-Lehman) yielded both of the Gators goals in the first 23:15 without making a save before
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) turned in a four-save effort over the final 46:45 in Keystone's cage.
Arianna Hudson made seven saves in a losing effort in goal for Notre Dame.
Wednesday's crucial regular season finale at Marywood is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on the Pacers turf field in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
