La Plume, PA –
Eddy Enowbi (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) scored a hat trick and
Julio Pertuz (Caracas, Venezuela/EU Noestra Senora de las Mercedes) added three assists to lead Keystone College to a 4-2 victory over visiting Immaculata University on Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Giants end the 2014 season with a 10-7 overall record including a 4-5 mark in conference play. Keystone's 10 wins this fall mark the first time the team has reached double-digit wins since the 2004 campaign.
The Giants, who also improved their CSAC record from a year ago when they were 3-5-1 in league play, finished the year in a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot with Rosemont College with 12 points apiece, but the Ravens received the conference's final postseason bid by virtue of their 4-3, comeback win at Keystone on October 1
st.
Prior to Saturday's game, Keystone honored Pertuz,
Taylor Carlsen (Hallstead, PA/Blue Ridge), and
Adam Kashuba (Dickson City, PA/Summit Christian Academy), who all played their final game in a Giants uniform prior to their graduation.
Immaculata (3-14-1, 1-8 CSAC) was able to cash in on their first shot of the game on Saturday when Stephen Smith one-touched a shot off a cross from Luke Santoni past Giants goalkeeper
Steven Heintz, Jr. (Ardsley, PA/Abington) to give the Mighty Macs a 1-0 advantage. The visitors nearly doubled their lead less than a minute later, but Smith's shot from the top of the box stayed out after striking the post.
Heintz kept the Giants deficit at one goal with just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half when he made a fine diving stop on an Immaculata breakaway. Keystone was able to level the contest at 1-1 with 4:20 left on the clock when Pertuz played Enowbi through on a short breakaway where the freshman calmly finished a shot low to the far post. The teams went into halftime deadlocked on the scoreboard at one-apiece with the Giants holding a 9-5 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play.
Just under seven minutes into the second half, Enowbi gave Keystone a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the game.
Franklin Villatoro (Germantown, MD/Clarksburg) picked up his conference-leading ninth assist of the season, serving a cross into the center of Immaculata's penalty box where Enowbi connected on a powerful header that Immaculata goalkeeper Joe Lubonski was able to get a hand on, but was unable to keep out of the net.
The Giants extended their lead to 3-1 in the 54
th minute when
Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) ran onto a thru-ball from Pertuz and scored his second goal of the season by beating Lubonski to the near post. Enowbi then completed his hat-trick with his CSAC-best 16
th goal of the season in the 62
nd minute, finishing another breakaway opportunity set up by Pertuz, who notched his third helper of the afternoon while tying Villatoro for the team and conference lead in assists.
Immaculata got a goal back just 32 seconds later when Kyle Jumalon knocked home a rebound opportunity after his first shot was saved by Heintz, but it would mark the end of the scoring for either team.
Keystone finished the game with a 22-14 advantage in shots while owning an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. The Giants also generated 10 corner kick opportunities to four for Immaculata.
Heintz finished the afternoon with three saves to earn his fourth victory in goal for the Giants.
William Hegarty made one save while playing the first half in goal while Lubonski made six second half stops for Immaculata.
