Giants Extend Win Streak to 10 With 15-2 Victory Over Highlanders

McLaughlin goes 4-6 with three RBIs to lead Keystone to 17th win in last 19 games

Langhorne, PA – Keystone College extended their winning streak to 10 games on Tuesday afternoon with a 15-2 victory over Cairn University in Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball action.  The Giants, who have also won 17 of their last 19 contests, improve to 20-11 on the spring and 13-2 in conference play.

Rick McLaughlin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) went 4-6 with three RBIs while Lymbel Guerrero (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) was 3-6 with a pair of RBIs to lead Keystone's offense.  Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel), Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman), and Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) added a pair of hits apiece with Gurman and Darley collected two RBIs apiece while Rojas and Gurman each scored three runs on the day.

Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) improve to 2-0 on the season after going six strong innings on the mound in which he allowed two runs – only one of which was earned – on five hits while striking out two batters.  Robert Minaya (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) tossed two scoreless innings in relief, yielding two hits to go along with a pair of Ks while Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.

After being forced to rally in both of Monday's games against Cairn (8-28, 1-17 CSAC), Keystone played from ahead the entire game on Monday, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Rojas scored the game's first run when Gurman reached on an error before Darley doubled to bring home Gurman.  After the Highlanders got a run back in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Manny Rivera, Guerrero hit a two-run double in the visitor's third that plated Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) and Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) to give the visitor's a 4-1 advantage.

Keystone added three more runs in the top of the fourth with Darley driving in Rojas with a sacrifice fly before Angelucci doubled home Gurman.  Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ) later singled home Angelucci with the Giants' seventh run of the game.  The hosts got a run back in the bottom half of the frame on a Keystone error, but it would make the end of the scoring for Cairn on the day.

The Giants extended their lead to 10-2 with a three-run sixth as Darley scored on a wild pitch before Reyes touched home on the same play following an error.  McLaughlin then drove in Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) as the Giants pushed their lead to eight runs.

In the seventh inning, Gurman scored on another error by the Highlanders before the Giants added four runs in the eighth inning.  McLaughlin hit a two-run double before Gurman smacked an RBI single.  Chris Muniz (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) capped the scoring by bringing in Rojas with an RBI groundout.

Cairn starting pitcher Jon Sanville (2-5) was charged with the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits to go along with one strikeout in 5.2 innings of work.  Mike DeLuca worked the final 3.1 innings on the mound for the Highlanders and surrendered six runs on six hits while fanning five batters.

Joey Nieves-Markee went 3-5 to pace Cairn's offense while Caleb Lang added a pair of hits in the loss.

Keystone will close out the conference portion of their regular season schedule this weekend with a key series against Neumann University.  The Giants will travel to Aston, PA on Friday to take on the Knights at 3:00 p.m. before playing host to Neumann in a doubleheader on Saturday that is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Keystone's Christy Mathewson Field.
