Senior Day Photo GalleryLa Plume, PA – Keystone College enjoyed joined its best offensive output of the season as the Giants rolled to a 7-0 victory over visiting Summit University in the first game of a Homecoming Weekend tripleheader on Keystone's turf field on Saturday. Keystone (6-6-1) inched closer to it's first-ever Colonial States Athletic Conference playoff berth by improving to 6-2 in league play with the win.
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored a pair of goals while
Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central) and
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) recorded a goal and two assists apiece to lead Keystone to Saturday's win while
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) and
Amber Crews (Plainfield, NJ/Central Jersey College Prep ) combined to make five saves as the Giants earned their fourth shutout of the season.
Prior to Saturday's game, Keystone honored the team's three seniors: Coon, Crews, and
Krissy Novak (Hurlock, MD/North Dorchester).
Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of Saturday's contest when Cortes scored for the sixth time in the last seven games. Ehrhart played Cortes in behind the Summit backline with a thru-ball, and the freshman took a touch before firing home a shot to the far post to open the scoring.
Cortes doubled the Giants' advantage in the 17
th minute, collecting a loose ball 20 yards from goal and ripping a shot in just underneath the crossbar for her seventh goal in the last seven games and team-leading eighth of the season.
Keystone took the 2-0 lead into halftime after doubling up Summit shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, 16-8.
Ehrhart extended the host's lead to 4-0 in the 55
th by scoring on a shot from 20 yards out that dipped in over the head of Defenders' goalkeeper Elysia Hinkel for her second tally of the season with Moranski assisting on the goal. Moranksi scored her fifth goal of the season just 59 seconds later with a shot to the far post from 10 yards out off a
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical) assist.
Nina Carbonaro (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) tallied her second goal of the year in the 59
th minute off a Moranski assist before
Gina Carbonaro (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 63
rd minute, scoring from close range off a cross from Ehrhart to make a 6-0 game before Novak netted her first goal of the season in the 80
th minute by knocking home a loose ball from a scramble in the visitor's six-yard box.
Keystone's defense, anchored by Novak, Johnson-Fite,
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area), and
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Aberdeen) held Summit to just five shots on goal on the day. Coon, making her first start of the season in goal for Keystone, made four first half saves while Crews denied a breakaway chance for Summit with just under nine minutes remaining to preserve the clean sheet.
Summit goalkeeper Elysia Hinkel suffered the loss despite making nine saves for the Defenders (4-10 2-7 CSAC), who also had a pair of ball cleared off the line by defenders.
The Giants dominated statistically, outshooting Summit 31-9 on the day including an 18-5 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also created eight corner kick chances to one for the Defenders.
Keystone will host Centenary College in a pivotal CSAC match on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
