Women’s Soccer Suffers 6-1 Setback to Centenary

Lewis scores first collegiate goal in loss to Cyclones

La Plume, PA – Amanda Benoit scored two goals and added two assists while Jessie Sharr had two goals and one helper to lead visiting Centenary College to a 6-1 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.  The Cyclones, who score three goals in both halves, improve to 6-7-2 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play while the Giants slip to 6-7-1 on the fall and 6-3 in the CSAC.  
 
Keystone nearly took the lead 13 minutes into Tuesday's game, but Centenary goalkeeper Hannah Walsh was able to get a hand on Kristy Hansen (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley)'s shot from 16 yards out to push it over the crossbar.  The Cyclones were able to break the deadlock in the 16th minute as Sharr one-timed a goal home after taking a crossing pass from the baseline from Benoit, with Jessica Benoit also assisting on the game's opening goal.
 
Centenary doubled their lead in the 24th minute as Amanda Benoit slipped a shot just inside the far left goal post after taking a thru-ball from Jessica Benoit.  The visitors then pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 36th minute when Amanda Benoit took a short pass from Sharr a fired open a shot from 10 yards.
 
The visitors held the three-goal lead at halftime after outshooting the Giants by an 11-6 margin in the opening 45 minutes of play.
 
Larraine Dedrick gave Centenary a 4-0 advantage in the 56th minute, picking up a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and ripping a shot into the left side-netting.  Sharr added her second goal of the contest in the 77th minute, one-timing an end-line feed from Amanda Benoit in with Becky D'Angelo also picking up a helper on the Cyclone's fifth goal.
 
Emily Pizzuto tacked on the Cyclone's sixth goal in the 81st minute with a shot from the right corner of the 18-yard box that found its way in at the far post.
 
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Aberdeen) spoiled Centenary's shutout bid with 2:55 remaining by scoring lacing a long direct kick from the left side that found its way into the far side-netting for the sophomore's first collegiate goal.  
 
For the game, the visitors held a 21-15 edge in shots including a 14-9 advantage in shots on goal while Keystone claimed a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.
 
Walsh picked up the win in goal for Centenary after making seven saves in the first 80:16 of Tuesday's match while Kaitlin Marold made one stop in the final 9:44.
    
Keystone starting goalkeeper Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington) suffered the loss despite making five saves in the first 68:25 of the game before being relieved by Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ), who turned aside three shots in the last 21:35 in net.
 
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) led the Giants with six shots on the game while Hansen and Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, NY/Stamford Central) had two shots on goal each.
 
Keystone will make the short trip to Marywood University on Saturday for another key CSAC game that will kick off at 12:00 p.m. in Scranton.
