Scranton, PA – Marywood University secured a berth in the upcoming Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer playoffs with a 7-0 victory over visiting Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers, who score five goals in the first 23:31 of Saturday's contest, improve 7-6-4 overall and 6-2-2 in conference play while the Giants slip to 6-8-1 overall and 6-4 in the CSAC.
Keystone still controls its postseason fate as the Giants can clinch their first-ever CSAC playoff berth with a win or a tie in Tuesday's regular season finale against Cairn University. Keystone would also qualify for the conference tournament if Gwynedd Mercy University wins or ties Thursday night's game against Rosemont College.
Marywood raced out to a 3-0 lead over the first 13:44 the game against their local conference rivals on Saturday. Ashley Kruchinsky scored off an assist from Megan Swiecicki just 7:40 into the contest to give the hosts the early advantage before Swiecicki doubled the Pacers' lead in the 10
th minute by scoring on a one v. one chance with Keystone goalkeeper
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, PA/Abington) after taking a pass from Kruchinsky. Swiecicki netted her second goal of the game in the 14
th minute after again being played in behind the Giants' backline by Kruchinsky to give Marywood the three-goal advantage.
Aly Barlock converted a penalty kick in the 17
th minute following a Keystone foul in the own 18-yard box before Allie Allikmaa scored unassisted in the 24
th minute to make it a 5-0 game in favor of Marywood. The Pacers took the five-goal cushion into halftime after outshooting the Giants by a 16-4 margin in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Brianna Bruster pushed the host's lead to 6-0 in the 61
st minute, tapping in a ball from 18 yards after taking a pass from Elizabeth Carlson before Sam Lindquist closed out the scoring in the 84
th minute by blasting home a shot from 14 yards out on a ball served overtop of the Giants' defense by Barlok.
Marywood, who held a 29-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, got three saves from Julie Youngman who picked up the shutout win after playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Pacers.
Heintz made five saves in the first 33:25 of action in Keystone's net while
Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) made eight stops over the final 56:38 of action.
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) led Keystone with seven shots in the game including three on target while
Shauna Menzella (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and
Nina Carbonaro (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) also attempted shots for the Giants in the loss.
Tuesday night's crucial conference matchup with Cairn will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on Keystone's turf field in La Plume.
