Paulson’s Goal Lifts Field Hockey to 1-0 Win at Neumann

Denmon makes 14 saves to set single-season and career records for Keystone

Aston, PA – Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) scored an unassisted goal 8:28 into Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey game and Keystone College's defense made it stand to carry the Giants to a 1-0 triumph at Neumann University.  Amy Denmon (Beaumont, PA/Lake-Lehman) made 14 saves to set new single-season and career records for saves in the program's history as Keystone improved to 3-5 on the season including a 2-0 mark in CSAC play.

Denmon has now made 119 saves this fall, topping the mark Nichole Blank (Schwenksville, PA/Boyertown) set in 2013.  The senior has also stopped 206 shots in her career to best Blank's career mark set from 2012-2014.

Both teams had shots go wide in the opening minutes of Saturday's contest, but Paulson struck first for Keystone, netting an unassisted goal just under eight and a half minutes into the game to give the Giants the early, 1-0 edge.  The visitors would not take another shot in the first half as Neumann (6-5, 1-1 CSAC) finished the first 35 minutes of play with a 15-2 advantage in shots, but Denmon made 11 saves in the period to preserve Keystone's one-goal lead at the break.

The Knights held the better of play in the second half, outshooting the Giants by a 7-3 margin, but Denmon turned aside all three shots that were on target to preserve her third shutout in the last four games.

Keystone won for the third time in their last three games despite being outshot by a 22-5 margin with Neumann holding a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal.  The Knights also generated 14 penalty corners to just one for the Giants.

Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) and Briana Sotiropoulos (Waterford, CT/Waterford) had two shots apiece while Paulson's shot accounted for the game-winning goal.

Neumann goalie Becca Wallace suffered the loss without making a save in 70 minutes of action while Alexa McIntyre added a defensive save in the loss.

The Giants will next host FDU-Florham on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Keystone's turf field in La Plume.
