Dempster Scores a Pair of Goals in Setback to Devils

Denmon makes 16 saves; Mellot adds a defensive save in 5-2 loss to FDU-Florham

La Plume, PA – Rebecca Dempster (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) scored a pair of goals in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference field hockey game against Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham, but it was enough as Keystone College dropped a 5-2 decision to the Devils on the Giants' turf field.  FDU-Florham improves to 8-4 on the season with the victory while the Giants fall to 3-6 overall.

The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first 26:07 of Wednesday contest to seize control of the game.  Erin O'Connell opened the scoring just 5:55 into the game by picking up a loose ball and firing home a shot from the top of the circle.  Kylee Cintron doubled FDU-Florham's lead in the 19th minute, scoring from close range after taking  a pass from Brooke Sherwin before Chrissy Penney made it a three-goal game by deflecting in a shot at the back post in the 27th minute off a Kim Davis assist.

Davis pushed the visitor's lead to 4-0 just 2:42 into the second half by ripping a shot just inside the far post with Stephanie Geskes picking up an assist on the tally before Sherwin stretched FDU-Florham's advantage to five goals in the 47th minute by finding the back of the cage with Gabby Allen picking up a helper on the tally.

Keystone would not go down without a fight, however, as Dempster broke up the Devils' shutout bid in the 61st minute by blasting home a shot from the top of the circle.  The sophomore forward then netted her second goal of the game and team-leading fourth tally of the season with 6:50 left in regulation after one-timing home a pass from the baseline by Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) to close out the scoring.  Paulson's helper was her second of the season.

Amy Defnet played the first half in FDU-Florham's cage without being forced to make a save while Samantha Rubin made three stops in the final 35 minutes of the Devils' win.

Amy Denmon (Beaumont, PA/Lake-Lehman) made 16 saves on the day in Keystone's goal while Adrienne Mellot (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) picked up her CSAC-leading 14th defensive save of the year.

FDU-Florham held a 28-9 advantage in shots for the game including a 22-5 lead in shots on goal.  The Devils also generated 16 penalty corners to five for the Giants.

Paulson and Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) each fired off three shots to lead Keystone while Dempster converted both of her shots into goals for the Giants.

Keystone will host Cabrini College on Saturday in a Colonial States Athletic Conference tilt scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in La Plume.
