Wilkes-Barre, PA – Keystone College reached the 20-win plateau for the just the second time in program history with a three-set sweep of King's College in non-conference volleyball action on Friday night. The Giants improve to 20-5 on the season and now trail only the 22-win 1992 squad for the most wins in a single season in Keystone history.
Keystone took Friday evening's first set 25-19 before taking a 2-0 advantage with a hard-fought, 25-23 decision in game two. The Giants sealed their 20
th win of the season by cruising to a 25-16 victory in the third set.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) powered Keystone's attack with a match-high 12 kills to go along with three service aces and five digs.
Ashley Williams (Virginia Beach, VA/Green Run) added seven kills, three aces, and a trio of blocks while
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) put down five kills and added a pair of blocks in the win.
Carol Mosier (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the Giants with 15 assists while picking up eight digs and
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) contributed seven helpers and a match-best six aces.
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) paced the visitors defensively with 14 digs to go along with three of Keystone's 15 aces on the night.
As a team, Keystone posted a .179 hitting percentage in the victory.
King's (20-8) was paced by Katelyn Shifflett's eight kills while Jill Korgeski added six kills. Maddie Kumm led all players with 21 assists in the loss while Elen O'Donnell (17) and Brenna Smudde (16) both reach double-digits for digs for the Monarchs, who posted a .072 hitting percentage on the evening.
Keystone will be right back in action on Saturday morning with a non-conference match at Alfred State College starting at 11:00 a.m. in Upstate New York. The Giants will be looking to avenge a three-set loss to the Pioneers suffered on September 19 in La Plume.
