Brooklyn, NY – Holding a seven point lead after the first period of Monday night's non-conference women's basketball game at the Pratt Institute, Keystone College outscored the hosts 33-8 in the second quarter to open up a 32-point halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 74-26 victory. The Giants improve to 2-0 on the young season while the Cannoneers remain winless in three contests.
Keystone trailed 6-5 with three and a half minutes remaining in the opening stanza when
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) connected on a three-pointer to give the Giants a lead they would not relinquish as the visitors scored the final eight points of the first quarter to hold a 13-5 lead.
Keystone opened the second quarter with a 25-3 run to take control of the game and led by as many as 35 points before taking a 46-14 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
The Giants outscored the Pratt 11-4 in the third period and 17-8 in the final to close out the lopsided victory while getting points from 10 different players.
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) scored a game-high 14 points for Keystone while
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) added 11 points and five rebounds.
Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) was the third player in double-figures for the Giants with 10 points to go along with four steals for the Giants.
Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) and
Catia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Bel Air) chipped in with nine points apiece in the victory with Elysee tying with
April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) for a game-high with four assists apiece. Acosta also collected a game-high seven steals for the Giants while Elysee and Hodanich had five thefts each for the Giants, who forced the Cannoneers into 47 turnovers on the night.
Elysee paced Keystone with eight rebounds on the night while Acosta, Williams, and
Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) had five boards each for the visitors, who held a 52-45 advantage on the glass in the victory.
Keystone connected on 35.4 percent of their field goal attempts on the night while going 22.7 percent from three-point range and 61.9 percent from the free throw line.
Amissa Epperson led Pratt with eight points and game-highs of 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Jennifer Klockner added seven points while Chloe Williams corralled 10 boards. Anna Bryce tied for a game-high with four assists for the Cannoneers, who were held to just 19.2 percent shooting from the floor in the loss. The hosts, who made just one three-pointer in the contest, went 5-13 from the charity stripe on the night.
Keystone will be right back in action on Tuesday night when they host Penn State Lehigh Valley in a non-conference contest scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Center in La Plume.
