ShaShawn Drayton (Monticello, NY/Monticello) posted career-highs of 23 points and 16 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Keystone College dropped an 89-75 decision to visiting Manhattanville College in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday afternoon. The Valiants, who outscored the Giants 50-36 in the second half after the game was tied at halftime, improve to 6-4 on the season with the win.
Manhattanville jumped out to an 18-9 over the first 6:19 of Wednesday afternoon's contest and held a 26-18 advantage at the 9:13 mark. Keystone (0-6) used an 8-2 run to cut their deficit to two points on a
Tyree Jones (Harlem, NY/Holcombe L. Rucker) three-pointer with 7:19 left, but the Valiants pushed their lead to 35-28 with just under five minutes remaining.
The Giants responded with seven-straight points, tying the game at 35-apiece on a Shawn Drayton layup before taking their first lead since the opening minutes on another bucket by the sophomore with 24 seconds left, 39-37. The visitors sent the game into halftime tied at 39-39 by scoring on a lay-in at the buzzer.
Drayton and
Deion Monroe (Kingston, NY/Kingston ) had 11 points apiece to power Keystone's offense in the first half with Drayton leading all players with eight rebounds. Jones added eight points for the Giants, who shot 40.5 percent from the field in the first half while going 4-12 from three-point range and 5-7 from the free throw line.
Anthony Maestre paced Manhattanville with 15 points while Juan Camacho added 11 points and six boards for the Valiants, who connected on 42.4 percent of their attempts from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play while shooting 5-14 from beyond the arc and 6-8 from the charity stripe.
Eric Hardaway (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) opened the second half with a field goal to put Keystone back in front during the start of a tight, opening 11 and a half minutes of the second stanza in which the lead change hands five times with Manhattanville holding the largest lead during the stretch of five points at the 14:15 mark.

James Cooper (Freehold, NJ/Pius X) trey followed by a Drayton layup with just under 12 minutes remaining gave Keystone a 59-56 advantage, but the Valiants took control of the game by outscoring the Giants 24-5 over the next nine minutes to hold an 80-64 lead with 3:09 left on the clock. The visitors maintained the double-digit lead the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Maestre led all payers with 31 points and five steals to go along with four assists while Camacho finished with a double-double on 21 points and 10 rebounds coupled with four helpers. Alex Tuci chipped in with 14 points for the Valiants, who shot 49.2 percent from the floor in the game including a 56.3 percent clip in the second half. The visitors, who were plus-five in the turnover category (10-15), finished the afternoon 33.3 percent from three-point land and 69.2 from the line.
Drayton's career-best 23 points came on a 10-16 effort from the floor along with three made free throws and the freshman split his 16 rebounds evenly at the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Jones added 17 points and led the Giants with four assists while Monroe added 14 points and five rebounds. Cooper was the four players in double-figures for the hosts with 13 points. Hardaway corralled seven rebounds for Keystone, who held a 45-41 advantage on the glass in the contest while hitting on 40.5 percent of their attempts from the field on the day. The Giants went 36 percent from beyond the arc and 46.2 percent from the stripe in the loss.
Keystone will close out the 2015 calendar year on Saturday afternoon when they host Nazareth College in a non-conference game starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Gambal Center.
