Keystone Wins a Pair of One-Run Games in Florida

Giants top Edgewood 4-3 in 10 innings before defeating Salem State, 3-2

Fort Myers, FL – Keystone College's baseball team improved to 4-1 on the season by winning a pair of one-run ballgames on Sunday in Florida.  The Giants defeated Edgewood College 4-3 in 10 innings before claiming a 3-2 victory over Salem State University in the nightcap.

In Sunday's opener, Edgewood (0-2) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) gave Keystone a 2-1 lead with a two-run home run on the bottom of the second inning.  The Eagles tied the game back up with an unearned run in the visitor's third before Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) put the Giants back in front with a double that plated Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) in the home fifth.

Edgewood knotted the game back up at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to force extra innings, where Keystone would win the game in the bottom of the 10th inning as Eduardo Familia (Bronx, NY/Collegio Utesianode Estudios Integrados) delivered a walk-off double to center field that brought home Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) with the winning run.

Bzozowski, Rojas, and Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast), had two hits apiece to lead the Giants offensively.

Keystone starting pitcher Felix Baez (San Juan, PR/Colegio Presbiteriano) struck out seven batters in seven innings of work while allowing eight hits.  Charles Morreale (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) picked up the win after throwing three scoreless innings while picking up two strikeouts and yielding a pair of hits.

In Sunday's nightcap, Salem State (2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Keystone leveled the contest in their next at-bats as Bzozowski came home on an RBI groundout off the bat of Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack).  The Giants claimed a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning with another RBI groundout, this time with Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) driving in Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ).

The Vikings knotted the game back up at 2-2 in the home third by scoring on a Keystone error and the game remained deadlocked until the visitor's seventh when Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) doubled to drive in Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) with the eventual game-winning run.

James Dunning (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) earned his first victory of the season by scattering six hits and striking out three batters in seven innings on the mound.  Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) came on relief and notched a save with two scoreless innings in which he gave up one hit while fanning a pair of Vikings.

Ross and Angelucci had two hits apiece to lead the Giants' offensively in the win over Salem State.

Keystone will return to the diamond on Monday with a single game against Johns Hopkins University that is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. in Fort Myers.
