Radnor, PA – Three-time defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Cabrini College built a 14-0 first half lead on Saturday against Keystone College and went on to score a 16-0 victory. The Cavaliers level their overall record at 4-4 on the season with the win and move to 2-0 in conference play while the Giants fall to 0-2 (0-2) on the year.
Cabrini raced out to a 6-0 lead over the first 4:50 of Saturday's contest and held a ten-goal advantage midway through the first half. The Cavaliers tacked on four more goals in the opening 30 minutes of play to hold a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Lacey Doubet led Cabrini with three goals and one assist in the first stanza while Melissa Scanzano and Sarah Carzo had two goals and one helper apiece in the period for the hosts, who outshot the Giants by a 22-1 margin. Cavaliers' goalie Megan Barlow kept the host's shutout intact by saving
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton)'s free-position shot eight and a half minutes into the game.
Keystone's defense prevented Cabrini from scoring for the first 18-plus minutes of the second half until the Cavaliers scored their 15
th goal with 11:18 remaining in regulation. The hosts then closed out the scoring with a tally with just under seven minutes showing on the clock.
Cabrini, who got at least one point from 14 different players, was led by Doubet's four-point performance with Scanzano (2 goals, 1 assist), Carzo (2 goals, 1 assist), Emily Crouse (1 goal, 2 assists), and Katie Lasater (1 goal, 2 assists) adding three points apiece.
Barlow earned the shutout by making three saves in goal for the Cavaliers, who held a 24-4 advantage in shots for the games while picking up 36 groundballs compared to 12 for the Giants. Cabrini also held a slim, 10-8 edge in draw controls in the contest.
Kaelyn Englert (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) led Keystone with four groundballs and two caused turnovers while
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) led the squad with three shots to go along with three draw controls and a trio of groundballs.
Bianca Dolac (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East) added three draw controls and a pair of groundballs while Englert and
Brittany VanAmburg (Montour Falls, NY/Odessa-Montour) were also credit with draw controls on the day.
Maria DiMartin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) went the distance in goal for the Giants, turning aside five shots while suffering the loss.
Keystone will look for their first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland University for a conference matchup that is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland
