Rosemont, PA –
Karissa Worobey (Scranton, PA/Scranton) threw a no-hitter in the second game of Tuesday's Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rosemont College to highlight Keystone College's sweep of the Ravens. The senior walked just two batters in the game two victory as the Giants won by scores of 4-1 and 11-0 to improve to 8-12 on the season including a 6-8 record in conference play.
Pitching was the story early on in Tuesday's opener, as Worobey and Rosemont starter Nikki Mauer combined to yield just one hit, a leadoff single in the second inning by the Ravens, through the first four innings before Keystone finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning.
Sarah Stacey (Shickshinny, PA/Lake-Lehman) led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a
Katie Thompson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) single through the left side.
Rosemont (2-20, 2-12 CSAC) knotted the score back up in the home half of the inning though as Taylor Mohr scored on two-out single by Lora Zubrzycki.
Keystone took control of the game by scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning. Thompson hit a two-run single that scored Stacey and
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical) before coming home on a
Sara Schraden (Allentown, PA/William Allen) base knock to give the Giants the 4-1 advantage. Worobey then retired the Ravens in order in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
Thompson went 2-4 with three RBIs to lead Keystone's offense while Stacey added a pair of hits and scored two runs.
Worobey scattered six hits and struck out four in the complete-game win.
Maggie Miller paced Rosemont with a pair of hits while Mauer suffered the loss after allowing four runs on six hits to go along with five strikeouts in the complete game.
In the nightcap, Worobey got all the run support that she would need in the first inning as Keystone jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Thompson scored on an RBI groundout from Schraden,
Kimberly Rivera (New York, NY/South Bronx Campus) drove in
Antonette Scialpi (Hughestown, PA/Pittston Area) with a sacrifice fly, and Long scored on a wild pitch.
The Giants extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning as Schraden ripped an RBI triple to right field before Scialpi hit an RBI single. Keystone added two more runs in the visitor's third as
Kaitlyn Sawicki (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) scored on a wild pitch before Thompson singled home
Lindsey Bucklaw (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area).
Keystone tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning with Bucklaw delivering a three-run double to centerfield before coming home on a double by
Shannon Dermont (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) to cap the scoring.
Worobey was in full control in the circle for the Giants, taking a perfect game into the fourth inning where Rosemont got their first two base runners of the game with two outs in the frame on a Keystone error followed by a walk, but the senior induced a groundout to end the inning. In the fifth inning, Worobey issued a one-out walk before getting a foul out and completed her gem by recording the final out with a strikeout, one of her two punch-outs for the game.
Bucklaw led the Giants' offense in game two with three hits and three RBIs while Thompson, Scialpi, and Sawicki each had two hits for Keystone, who pounded out 14 hits in the victory.
Miller suffered the loss on the rubber for Rosemont after yielding 11 runs on 14 hits while striking out two batters over the game's five innings.
Keystone will return to action on Friday afternoon with a CSAC doubleheader at Cedar Crest College. First pitch between the Giants and Falcons is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
