Allentown, PA – Keystone College improved to the .500 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball play by sweeping a doubleheader at Cedar Crest College on Friday. The Giants, who won game one 9-6 before claiming an 11-10 victory in the nightcap, are now 10-12 this spring including an 8-8 record the CSAC after notching their fourth-straight win.
In Friday's first game, Keystone jumped out to a 5-0 lead in their first at-bats of the day.
Emily Long (Shamokin, PA/Lourdes Regional) singled home the game's first run before
Kimberly Rivera (New York, NY/South Bronx Campus) hit an RBI double to left field.
Lindsey Bucklaw (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area) then delivered a three-run home run to give the Giants a five-run advantage.
Cedar Crest (6-14, 5-7 CSAC) got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the first, but Keystone extended their lead to 8-2 in the visitor's third. Rivera smacked a two-run double to left field before coming home on an error by the Falcons.
The hosts cut a run back in the home third before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 8-6, but Keystone closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Karissa Worobey (Scranton, PA/Scranton) came home on an RBI groundout from
Sara Schraden (Allentown, PA/William Allen).
Rivera and Bucklaw had three hits and three RBIs apiece to lead Keystone's offense in the first game while Long finished with a pair of hits.
Worobey picked up the win in the circle by tossing a complete game and striking out seven batters. The senior yielding nine hits in the game one win.
Kaylee Martinez led Cedar Crest with three hits and three runs scored while Amanda Kustanbauter contributed a pair of hits for the Falcons, who got a complete game performance from pitcher April Daly.
In the second game, Cedar Crest took a 2-0 lead with a runs in the first two innings before Keystone used a three-run third inning to claim a 3-2 edge. Schraden singled home
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical) before
Sarah Stacey (Shickshinny, PA/Lake-Lehman) and Schraden scored following an error on a ball hit by
Antonette Scialpi (Hughestown, PA/Pittston Area).
Cedar Crest countered with four runs in the home half of the third before adding a pair in the fourth inning to open up an 8-3 lead. The Giants battled back with a four-run fifth inning to cut their deficit to 8-7. Johnson-Fite scored on a sacrifice fly by Schraden before Long hit a three-run home run.
A two-run double by the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the hosts a 10-7 lead, but Schraden leveled the high-scoring game up at 10-10 with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Keystone would then go ahead by a run in the visitor's seventh Johnson-Fite drove in Rivera with the game-winning run with a single to left field.
Johnson-Fite led the Giants with three hits and three runs scored in the nightcap while Schraden collected a pair of hits.
Worobey again went the distance on the rubber for her 16
th complete game of the season while earning her eighth win of the spring, striking out one batter in the game.
Alexis Baxter and Olivia Lopez had three hits apiece to lead Cedar Crest, who got a complete game from Kustanbauter in the circle.
Keystone will visit Cabrini College on Saturday for another CSAC twin bill. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
