Radnor, PA – Cabrini College improved to 15-3 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a pair of five-inning victories over visiting Keystone College in a CSAC softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers lift their overall record to 19-7 while dropping the Giants' record to 10-14 this spring and 8-10 in conference play.
Cabrini took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday's first game on a sacrifice fly, but Keystone leveled the contest at one-apiece in the top of the third inning when a fielder's choice by
Sara Schraden (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored
Karissa Worobey (Scranton, PA/Scranton).
The Cavaliers countered with four runs in the home third before tacking on three more runs the following inning to open up a 10-1 advantage.
Katie Thompson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) singled home Worobey in the visitor's fifth to make it an eight-run game, but the Giants were unable to get another run to extend the game.
Lindsay Savar went 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Cabrini's offense while Christine Ferraro, Jess Giordano, and Lea Enoch added two hits apiece for the Cavaliers, who doubled up the Giants in hits in the contest, 14-7.
Giordano improve to 5-2 in the circle for the hosts by tossing a complete game with six strikeouts.
Thompson and Worobey had two hits apiece to lead Keystone while Worobey suffered the loss despite turning in another complete game on the rubber.
In the nightcap, Cabrini took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Natalie Giannascoli before taking advantage of a Keystone error followed by a passed ball to plate a pair of runs in the third inning to open up a 3-0 advantage.
The Cavaliers put the game out of reach by scoring seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a ten-run advantage before retiring the Giants in order in the top of the fifth inning to close out the victory.
Kaitlyn Hohman improved to 7-1 in the circle for Cabrini after tossing a complete game, two-hitter with four strikeouts.
Giannascoli and Amber Dietrich had two hits apiece, Taylor Gallagher drove in three runs, and Dietrich added two RBIs to power the Cavaliers' offense in the nightcap.
Worobey suffered the loss in her 18
th complete game of the season. The senior surrendered seven earned runs while fanning a pair of batters.
Thompson and
Sarah Stacey (Shickshinny, PA/Lake-Lehman) accounted for Keystone's two hits in the game two setback.
The Giants will host Marywood University on Sunday afternoon in a critical CSAC doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. at Edmunds Field in La Plume.
