La Plume, PA – Keystone College's volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a sweep of the Pennsylvania College of Technology on Tuesday evening, taking three-straight sets from the Wildcats in the non-conference match.
The Giants (1-0) cruised in the opening set, 25-12, before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-17 win in the second frame. Keystone completed the sweep by edging out Penn Tech (0-1) 25-23 in the third game.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) led Keystone with 12 kills on the evening,
Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) added four kills, and
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) and
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) contributed three kills apiece in the victory.
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) enjoyed a strong debut for the Giants by picking up a match-high 12 assists to go along with four service aces.
Carol Mosier (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake-Lehman) chipped in with 11 assists for the hosts while
Ashley Williams (Virginia Beach, VA/Green Run) recorded three aces.
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) tied for a match-high with 11 digs while Zuchowski picked up eight digs apiece on the evening.
Julia Kocher and Tayla Clark had a pair of kills apiece to pace Penn Tech's attack while Sophie Coldsmith dished out six helpers. Kocher tied for a match-best with 11 digs while Clark also tied for a match-high with four aces.
Keystone returns to the court on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches at the Morrisville State Tournament in New York. The Giants will take on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 1:00 p.m. before squaring off against MIT at 3:00 p.m.
