Keystone and Mount Aloysius Play to 2-2 Draw

Heter and Mendez score goals for Giants; Enowbi adds two assists

La Plume, PA – 110 minutes was not enough to decide a winner on Saturday afternoon as Keystone College and Mount Aloysius College played to a 2-2 double overtime in non-conference men's soccer action.  The Giants, who got goals from Frank Heter (Andover, NJ/Newton) and Aadil Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Pocono Mountain East) along with two assists from Eddy Enowbi (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook), see the record move to 2-1-1 on the season while the Mounties are now 1-2-1.

Both teams have several threatening chances over the first 35 minutes with both Keystone goalkeeper Adam Zbiciak (Saint Johns, MI/St. Johns) and Mount Aloysius netminder Justin Hann making a pair of saves each.  Hann had the best stop of the early going, making a diving save at the near-post to deny a near own-goal.

The Giants finally broke through in the game's 37th minute as the hosts capitalized on a well-executed fast break.  Enowbi dribbled at the center of the Mounties' defense at pace, drew a defender to him, before slipping a ball off to Heter, who made no mistake in finishing the ball to the back post for his first goal in a Keystone uniform to put the hosts ahead 1-0.

Keystone appeared to be headed into halftime with the one-goal advantage, but a spectacular, over-the-head shot by Mount Aloysius's Deekai Gbonimy off a crossing pass from Thomas Sloan with 13.1 seconds showing on the clock sent the game into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.

Mount Aloysius held a slim, 8-6 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes of play while both sides generated three corner kick chances in the first stanza.

Zbiciak made a great reaction save on a close-range shot three minutes into the second half to keep the score level and Keystone reclaimed the lead in the 61st minute when Mendez netted his first goal of the season.  Enowbi drove to the baseline before slotting a pass back to the Mendez as the six-yard box.  Mendez one-timed a shot that found it's way into the back of the net to give the Giants a 2-1 edge.

The host's lead was short-lived however as Mount Aloysius was awarded a penalty kick in the 64th minute that Jim Smith buried into the right side of the net.

The Giants nearly went back in front with just over 20 minutes remaining, but Hann made a great save to deny Mendez his second goal of the game and Enowbi's header off the rebound went just wide.  A bid by Enowbi from 25 yards out with four a half minutes remaining skimmed off the top of the crossbar and the two teams headed to overtime knotted at 2-2.

Enowbi had another great chance two and a half minutes into overtime, but his shot from 12 yards out sailed just over the bar.  The Mounties generated the rest of the quality chances the rest of the first period of extra time, but Zbiciak made three stops to deny the visitors.

Hann denied Enowbi midway through the second half with a one-handed parry over the bar off a blast from 16 yards out before Mount Aloysius saw a shot on a mini-breakaway go wide in the final 30 seconds of the contest as the game ended 2-2.

Mount Aloysius outshot Keystone by a 26-20 advantage while placing 14 efforts on target compared to nine shots on goal for the Giants.  The Mounties also claimed a 10-8 edge in corner kick chances.

Zbiciak finished with 12 saves on the afternoon for Keystone while Hann made six stops for the Mounties.

Keystone returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Penn State Altoona for a non-conference game that will kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
