Late Goal Sinks Men’s Soccer at Penn State Altoona

Lions score with 1:41 left in regulation to defeat Giants, 1-0

Altoona, PA – Penn State Altoona scored the only goal in Wednesday night's non-conference men's soccer game with 1:41 remaining in regulation to notch a 1-0 victory over Keystone College.  The Lions improve their record to an unblemished 3-0 on the season with the victory while the Giants fall to 2-2-1 overall.

Neither team was able to break through in the first half with Penn State Altoona holding a 7-3 advance in shots in the frame.  Keystone goalkeeper Adam Zbiciak (Saint Johns, MI/St. Johns), the reigning Colonial States Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, made two saves to keep the Lions off the board while Penn State Altoona netminder Jonathan Fuydal made one stop to keep the game scoreless.

The second half mirrored the first with the Lions holding the statistical advance by outshooting Keystone by an 11-2 margin in the half.  However, the Lions' final shot of the game, their 18th of the contest, would make the difference as Peter Sturtevant headed home a crossing pass in the box from Seth Murrelle in the 89th minute to account for the game's only goal.

Penn State Altoona held an 18-6 advantage in shots for the game including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.  The Lions also claimed a narrow, 5-4 edge in corner kicks for the game.

Fuydal was credited with the shutout win after making one save while Zbiciak suffered the loss despite make four stops.

Eddy Enowbi (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) led Keystone with three shots in the game.

The Giants will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they visit Lycoming College for a non-conference game scheduled to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
