La Plume, PA – Keystone College split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches on Saturday in the Gambal Athletic Center as the squad hosted a tri-match. The Giants defeat Sarah Lawrence College in three sets in Saturday's opening match before falling in three sets to unbeaten Alfred State College in their second match of the day. Keystone's record now stands at 8-3 on the season.
In Saturday's opener against the Gryphons (1-7), Keystone scored a convincing, 25-4 win in the first set before doubling their advantage with a 25-10 victory in the second frame. The Giants had to rally in the third set, coming back from a 12-6 deficit to win the match with a 25-19 win in the third game.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) led all players with eight kills and eight service aces for Keystone while
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) added six kills.
Ashley Williams (Virginia Beach, VA/Green Run) contributed five kills while
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) put down four kills in the victory.
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) handed out a match-best 13 assists and also led the hosts with five digs in the win while
Carol Mosier (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake-Lehman) added 12 helpers. Larkin, Mosier, and
Dana Carey (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) had three assists apiece for the Giants.
Williams and
Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had three blocks apiece in the win over the Gryphons.
Yolanda Lyne Cando paced Sarah Lawrence with six kills, CJ Kelley had eight assists, and Hannah Loe picked up a team-best three digs.
In the nightcap versus the Pioneers (11-0), Alfred State won the first game 25-12 before taking a 2-0 edge with a 25-16 victory in the second set. The Pioneers, who defeated Sarah Lawrence in three sets earlier in the day, then secured their second win of the day by claiming game three, 25-9.
Janae Hamilton led all players with 10 kills, Grace Hall added nine kills, and Bryanna Godfrey added eight kills to power Alfred State to the win.
Lera Braun added a double-double on match-highs of 24 assists and 12 digs for the Pioneers, who got three aces apiece from Hall and Braun.
Zuchowski paced Keystone with eight kills while Larkin put down three kills in the loss. Binkley and Mosier handed out six assists each;
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) led the team with 10 digs, and Zuchowski contributed nine digs as well.
Heitman also added a pair of service aces against Alfred State.
Keystone will enjoy a week off before returning to action next Saturday with a non-conference match at home against Wells College. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
