Nicole Wentz picked up the 100
th victory of her collegiate coaching career on Saturday afternoon as Keystone College topped visiting Wells College in a thrilling, five-set match in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Giants lift their record to 9-3 overall with the win while the Express fall to 7-7 on the fall.
Wentz posted 50 wins in two season at Franklin & Marshall College (2001-2002) and has now added 50 more wins over six years in two different stints at Keystone (2003-2004 and 2012-present).
Keystone took a 1-0 edge with a 25-22 victory in Saturday's opening set before Wells leveled the match with a 25-13 decision in the second set. Keystone went back in front with a 25-18 win the third frame before the Express forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-18 decision in the fourth game. Keystone took the match with an exciting, 15-13 win in the fifth set to give Wentz the milestone victory.
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) tied for the team-lead with 12 kills apiece with Zuchowski picking up a match-high 12 digs to record a double-double.
Ashley Williams (Virginia Beach, VA/Green Run),
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes), and
Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had five kills apiece in the win.
Carol Mosier (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the Giants with 31 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double of her own.
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) collected a match-best four service aces to go along with nine digs in the victory. Zuchowski, Williams, and
Shaylah Ware (Newark, NJ/Science Park) all had three aces on the day.
Meredith Kadjeski and Vashti Nettles led Wells with 16 kills each. Eliza Schwab dished out a match-high 42 assists while Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (11) and Nadine Pershyn (10) reached double-digits in digs for the Express.
Keystone will travel to Rosemont College on Tuesday night for a Colonial States Athletic Conference match scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
