Keystone Levels CSAC Mark With 64-50 Win Over Summit

Hall scores career-high 25 points as Giants complete regular season sweep of Defenders

La Plume, Pa. - Keystone College outscored visiting Summit University 29-13 over the middle two period of Wednesday evening's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball contest in the Gambal Athletic Center to pull away with a 64-50 victory over the Defenders. The Giants, who won the previous meeting this season at Summit, 58-50, lift their record to 7-9 overall and level their conference mark at 4-4 after completing the regular season sweep of the Defenders (3-9, 1-7 CSAC).

Summit built a 14-7 lead over the first six and a half minutes of Wednesday night's contest before Keystone cut their deficit to three points, 18-15, after the first 10 minute period. The Defenders extended their lead back to five points early in the second quarter before the Giants embarked on an 8-0 run over a three minute span, reclaiming the lead midway through the period on a layup by Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical). The Giants would go on to hold a 25-22 lead at the halftime break.

Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) led a balanced offense for Keystone over the first two periods with six points while Johnson-Fite, Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area), and Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) chipped in with four points apiece. Brianna Nolen (Union Bridge, MD/Walkersville) paced the Giants with three rebounds and April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) had two assists for the hosts, who shot 30 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 7-8 from the free throw line.

Summit's Callie Kitowski led all scorers in the first half with 10 points while Torri Erdman netted seven points. Jacklyn Simpson pulled down nine rebounds for the Defenders, who connected on 34.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening two stanzas while going 3-8 from the charity stripe.

The visitors cut their deficit to two points in the early moments of the third period before Keystone used an 18-2 run to open up a 44-26 advantage with 4:05 remaining in the frame. Summit scored the final five points to cut the Giants' lead to 44-31 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Holding a 47-33 with 8:45 remaining in regulation, Keystone put the game out of reach with a 13-0 run to open up a commanding, 27-point lead. The Defenders scored 17 of the game's final 19 points, but by that point, the outcome was not in doubt.

Hall finished with a career-high 25 points on 9-18 shooting from the field including a 3-4 effort from three-point range and a 4-7 showing at the free throw line. Johnson-Fite finished with eight points while Garrett and Na-dearah Scott (Newton, NJ/Newton) added seven points apiece for Keystone, who shot 32.8 percent from the field, 25 percent from downtown, and 68 percent from the line.

Moro was Keystone's leading rebounder with seven boards, Johnson-Fite corralled six rebounds, and Catia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Bel Air) added five rebounds in the game. Acosta led the hosts with four assists and four steals as the Giants forced 27 turnovers by the Defenders while giving the ball away 13 times themselves.

Kitowski tied with Hall for a game-high with 25 points for Summit, who got 12 points, four assists, and two blocked shots from Erdman. Simone Lichty also had four helpers while Simpson led all players with 16 boards for the Defenders, who held a slim, 47-44 edge on the glass for the evening.

The visitors finished the evening hitting on 32 percent of their attempts from the floor while going 18.2 percent from long range and 57.1 percent from the stripe.

Keystone will return to action on Saturday with a CSAC matchup at Centenary College. Opening tipoff between the Giants and Cyclones in scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
