La Plume, Pa. - Visiting Rosemont College shot 60 percent from three-point range to pull away with an 83-56 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Ravens level their overall record at 9-9 on the season and move into sole possession of the sixth and final playoff spot at 5-4 in conference play while the Giants fall to 7-10 on the year and 4-5 in league contest.
Prior to Wednesday's contest, a moment of silence was observed in memory of Keystone College students Michael (Jake) Burkhardt and Tashandra Burton, who tragically passed away on Monday evening, as well as continued support and prayers for Keystone students Allison Berman, Emily Fardoulis, Kaylee Ceci, and Josh Zilla, who were also injured in the automobile accident.
Three-point shooting propelled Rosemont to a 43-34 lead at halftime of Wednesday night's contest as the Ravens went 5-8 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes of play. The visitors built a 17-6 lead over the first five minutes of the contest and would lead by as many as 12 points and held a 22-12 advantage after the first 10 minute period.
Keystone scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second quarter, narrowing their deficit to 25-21 when
April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) scored on a layup at the 6:43 mark. Rosemont countered with a 7-0 spurt to build a 32-21 advantage at the midway point of the frame.
Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) followed up another Acosta with a field goal to bring the Giants to within seven points with 1:34 showing on the first half clock, but the Ravens netted the final two points of the period to hold the nine-point edge at the break.
Jasmyn Parker and Brianna Macauley led Rosemont with 11 points apiece in the first half while Carly Hislop led all players with eight rebounds and five assists. The Ravens shot 41 percent from the field over the opening 20 minutes of play including the 62.5 percent showing from downtown and a 6-11 effort from the free throw line.
Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) powered Keystone's offense with nine points while
Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) added eight points and five rebounds. Acosta and
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) totaled six points each with Acosta adding five boards while Donahue led the squad with three assists. The Giants shot 43.8 percent from the field in the opening two periods and were 3-5 from three-point land and 3-7 from the charity stripe.
Breelyn Johnson-Fite (Bogota, NJ/Bergen County Technical) converted a pair of free throws to pull Keystone within seven points to open the second half, but Rosemont rattled off nine-straight points to open up a 52-36 lead at the 5:27 mark of the third quarter and would build a 17-point lead, 59-42, heading into the final 10 minute stanza.
The Giants narrowed their deficit to 15 points with 6:08 remaining in regulation on a field goal by
Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo), but that was as close as the hosts were able to come the rest of the way as the Ravens put the game out of reach with a 12-1 run over the next three and a half minutes.
Parker finished with a game-high 21 points for Rosemont, going 7-11 from the floor including a 5-7 effort from three-point range. Macauley added 16 points off the bench while Ayanna Thompson netted 14 points after going 4-8 from beyond the arc to go along with seven assists and four steals. Hislop added 10 points, 14 rebounds, and a game-best eight assists for the Ravens, who finished the evening hitting on 44.3 percent of their shots from the floor, 60 percent of their three-point attempts, and 57.1 percent of their efforts from the line.
Hall scored a team-leading 16 points for Keystone to go along with a pair of steals while Moro added 10 points and eight rebounds. Williams added eight points and seven boards while Acosta tied with Moro for the team-lead with eight caroms to go along with a pair of takeaways. Donahue led the Giants with three assists and two blocked shots in the loss. The hosts shot 26.8 percent from the field for the game, struggling in the second half by connecting on just five field goals. The Giants also shot 36.4 percent from downtown and 66.7 percent from the line.
Keystone returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a CSAC tilt at Cabrini College. Opening tipoff between the Giants and Cavaliers is set for 2:00 p.m. in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
