Fourth Quarter Push Lifts Keystone Past Summit, 58-50

Giants outscore Defenders 17-9 in fourth period to snap three-game losing skid

Clarks Summit, Pa. – Trailing by two points with eight and a half minutes remaining in Tuesday night's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Summit University, Keystone College scored 11-straight points to pick up a 58-50 win over the Defenders.  The Giants improve to 5-6 overall this season and level their conference record at 2-2 while snapping a three-game losing skid.

Summit (2-5, 0-3 CSAC) used an 11-2 run midway through the first period of Tuesday's contest to open up a 17-11 lead and held a 19-14 advantage after the first stanza.  The Defenders pushed their lead to as many as nine points in the second quarter before Keystone cut their deficit to five points, 32-27, heading into halftime after Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) hit a three-pointer with 21 seconds left in the opening half.

Simone Lichty paced all scorers with 12 points in the first half while Summit received eight points apiece from Torri Erdman and Callie Kitowski.  The Defenders connected on 37.9 percent of their field goal attempts over the first two periods while connecting on nine of 10 free throw shots.

Hodanich, Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech), Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) had six points in the first half to lead Keystone while Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) netted five points for the Giants, who shot 30.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Keystone scored the first six points of the third period to take a 33-32 lead as Hodanich scored on a lay-in after a pair of Donahue field goals.  The two teams would swap the lead five times over the final five and a half minutes of the frame and the game was knotted at 41-apiece heading into the final 10 minute stanza.

Megan Wagner gave Summit a 45-43 lead with 8:27 remaining by making a jump shot, but Keystone went back in front for good on a three-point play by Hall, who scored seven of the Giants' 11 points during the decisive run that gave the visitors a 54-45 lead with 1:20 remaining after April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) canned a pair of free throws.  The Giants went 6-8 from the line down the stretch to close out the eight-point victory.

Hodanich led Keystone with 14 points, Hall netted 13 points, and Donahue tallied 11 points to go along with a game-high four steals in the victory.  Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) chipped in eight points for the Giants, who finished the game hitting on 30.1 percent of their shots from the field.  The visitors won despite making just three three-pointers on the night and shooting 50 percent from the free throw line.

Williams and Acosta tied for the team-lead with seven rebounds apiece with Williams and Hall dishing out three assists apiece.  Williams also blocked a pair of shots in the victory for the Giants, who forced Summit into 29 turnovers while giving the ball away just 12 times.
