Neumann Spoils Keystone’s Senior Day With 1-0 Win in Crucial CSAC Game

Giants need to win at Centenary and for Gwynedd Mercy to lose last two games for playoff berth

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College's Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs hopes suffered a major setback on Saturday night as visiting Neumann University spoiled the Giants' Senior Day with a 1-0 win in women's soccer action.  The Knights secured a playoff berth while improving to 9-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference while the Keystone falls to 7-7-1 this fall and 4-5-1 in the CSAC.

In order to qualify for the CSAC playoffs, Keystone now needs Gwynedd Mercy University to lose its final two games of the season to Cairn University and Cabrini University while also needing to win its own regular season finale at Centenary University on Thursday.

Prior to Saturday's game, Keystone honored the team's seniors: Zana Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter), Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, N.Y./Stamford Central), and Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area).

The first half of Saturday's contest was a back-and-forth affair with Keystone generating the majority of the early chances before Neumann created several dangerous opportunities, but neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play.  The Knights held a 10-4 advantage in shots in the opening stanza, but Giants' goalkeeper Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) made seven saves while Neumann's Anna Attardi made four stops to keep the game scoreless.

The Knights broke the deadlock in the 57th minute of the contest as Ashley Francis fed a thru-ball down the right side of Keystone's penalty area to Jamie King, who scored with a shot to the far post with what would stand as the game's only goal.

The Giants spent the final 30-plus minutes searching for the equalizer, but were unable to solve Attardi, who finished with six saves to pick up the win for the Knights.

Heintz ended the evening with a game-high 11 saves in the loss for Keystone.

Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) led the Giants with four shots in the game while Ehrhart and Nina Carbonaro (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) attempted two shots apiece in the loss.

Keystone wraps up the regular season on Thursday afternoon with a CSAC contest at Centenary.  Opening kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
