Madison, N.J. – FDU-Florham scored five unanswered goals to overcome an early deficit to visiting Keystone College in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday night. The Devils, who got three goals and an assist from Kim Davis, improve to 6-5 on the season while the Giants slip to 3-6 on the fall.
Keystone opened the scoring just 6:54 into Wednesday contest on a great individual effort by
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey). The sophomore picked up a ball forty yards from the Devils cage and made a long solo run before beating a defender and ripping a shot into the left corner of the goal for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
FDU-Florham leveled the contest just 58 seconds later when Chrissy Penney scoring from point blank range before taking a 2-1 edge in the 24
th minute of play. Davis took a feed from Makayla Pak and found the back of the net to give the hosts their first lead of the night.
The Devils extended their lead to 3-1 just over a minute into the second half when Davis scored on a penalty stroke.
Davis completed her hat trick in the 47
th minute of the game with an unassisted tally to give FDU-Florham a 4-1 advantage. Jess Pietracatella gave the Devils a four-goal cushion in the 56
th minute by scoring off a Davis assist.
FDU-Florham goalkeeper Samantha Rubin made four saves to pick up the win while
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) suffered the loss despite making a season-high 12 saves for the Giants.
For the game, the Devils held a 35-13 advantage in shots along with a 17-5 lead in shots on goal. The hosts also generated 16 penalty corner chances to nine for the Giants.
Bain led Keystone with six shots,
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) attempted four shots, and
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) had three shots in a losing effort for the visitors.
Keystone will travel to Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon for a Colonial States Athletic Conference game starting at 12:00 p.m. in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
