Radnor, Pa. – Cabrini University scored three first half goals on its way to a 3-0 victory over visiting Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers level their overall record at 6-6 and improve to 2-1 in conference play while the Giants slip to 3-7 on the year and 1-2 in the CSAC.
Cabrini opened the scoring in the 16
th minute of Saturday's contest when Sara Johnsen knocked home a rebound before doubling its lead in the 24
th minute when Maddy Worley found the back of the cage after taking a feed from Taylor Mack.
The Cavaliers extended their lead to 3-0 in the 26
th minute when Jackie Neary scored an unassisted goal.
After the visitors held an 18-1 advantage in shots in the first half, Keystone tighten up defensively in the final 35 minutes of play, holding Cabrini scoreless and limiting the hosts to 10 shots.
Taylor Bookman made one save in nearly 65 minutes in goal to pick up the win while Noelia Ramirez preserved the shutout with one stop in the final five minutes in net for the Cavaliers.
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) was charged with the loss after yielding two goals and making seven saves in nearly 24 minutes in Keystone's goal while
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) stopped four shots in just over 46 minutes of action.
April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) added her team-leading third defensive save of the season while
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) led the Giants with two shots in the game.
Cabrini finished the day with a 28-2 advantage in shots, placing 15 of those shots on goal while both efforts by the Giants were on target.
Keystone will return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference game against Houghton College starting at 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
