Aston, Pa. – Keystone College's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Friday night at the Knights Fall Classic at Neumann University. The Giants dropped a hard-fought, five-set decision to Rowan University before falling in three sets to a strong Saint Mary's University (Minn.) squad.
The Giants now sit at 10-8 this fall as the team suffered its third and fourth consecutive defeats following a 10-match winning streak.
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) was named to the Knights Fall Classic All-Tournament team after action in the weekend tournament concluded on Saturday.
Match 1 vs. Rowan
In Friday's first match against Rowan (4-13), the Profs won a tight opening set, 25-23 before Keystone leveled the match with a 25-21 victory in game two. The Giants forged ahead, 2-1, with a 25-17 decision in the third set, but Rowan forced a fifth set with a 25-16 win in the fourth frame. In the decisive fifth set, the Profs claimed a 15-11 victory to win the match.
Megan Jacobi led Rowan with 15 kills while Erica O'Hagan put down 11 kills in the win. Kat Wolf dished out 25 assists and had 11 digs for a double-double. Katelyn Paxson had 13 helpers and 11 digs for a double-double of her own while Jennifer Vorel led the Profs with 18 digs in the victory.
Zuchowski led Keystone with 14 kills and picked up 17 digs to record a double-double.
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) added 10 kills while
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) totaled six kills in the loss.
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) led the Giants with 22 assists to go along with nine digs while
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) added 18 helpers.
Pamela Hetiman paced Keystone with 25 digs while
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) also reached double-figures in digs with 11.
Match 2 vs. Saint Mary's
In Friday's nightcap against St. Mary's (18-2), the Cardinals claimed a narrow, 25-22 decision in the opening set before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-17 victory in game two. St. Mary's completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set for its fourth consecutive victory.
Brandi Blattner led the Cardinals with 13 kills, Lillian Braun had 21 assists, and Brittney Hansen put up 14 helpers in the win. Morgan Thomas paced St. Mary's with 19 digs while Blattner added 13 digs to round out a double-double in the victory.
Zuchowski again paced Keystone with nine kills while
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) picked up three kills in the loss. Binkley dished out a team-leading 13 assists while Heitman picked up a team-best 15 digs.
Bowen and Zuchowski had two aces apiece for the Giants with Zuchowski and
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) chipping in with seven digs each in the loss to the Cardinals.

Keystone will to action next Friday with a Colonial States Athletic Conference match against Cedar Crest College starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume.
