La Plume, Pa. - Neumann University built a 38-11 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 77-41 victory over Keystone College in the Giants' annual Think Pink game on Wednesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game that was televised live by Fox 56 Sports. The Knights improve to 12-10 on the season with the win and 10-3 in league play while the Giants slip to 7-15 on the year including a 4-10 mark in the CSAC.
At halftime of Wednesday's game, Keystone presented a check for $1,200 to the American Cancer Society for money raised as part of this year's Think Pink event.
Wednesday night's game will be rebroadcast this coming Saturday at 9:30 a.m. by Fox 56 Sports, MYTV QWMY. The game can be seen again locally on Comcast channel 811 or Service Electric channel 504.
Neumann jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the first six minutes of the first period before a three-pointer from
Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) cut the Knights' lead to six points, but the visitors scored the final four points of the stanza to hold a 17-7 advantage at the end of 10 minutes of play.
Neumann netted the first seven points of the second quarter and outscored Keystone 21-4 in the frame to hold a 38-11 lead at halftime, powered by 13 points apiece from JoHanna Metzger and Lauren Legler. Metzger also led all players with 11 rebounds for a first half double-double. Sarah Roberts dished out six assists for the Knights, who shot 51.5 percent from the field while going 3-13 from three-point range.
Hall paced Keystone with five points and four rebounds while
Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) netted four points over the first two periods. Hall and
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) added two steals apiece for the Giants, who hit on 20 percent of their attempts from the floor in the half including a 1-5 showing from beyond the arc.
The visitors extended their lead to 33 points early in the third quarter, but Keystone closed the period with the last five points to draw to within 52-27 heading into the final 10 minutes of play after outscoring Neumann 16-14 in the stanza.
Keystone cut their deficit to 60-36 with 6:04 remaining in the contest on an
April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) field goal, but Neumann outscored the Giants 17-5 the rest of the way to close out the victory.
Metzger finished game-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead Neumann while Legler finished with 21 points. The Knights connected on 50 percent of their field goal efforts while shooting 29.4 percent from long distance and 50 percent from the free throw line. The visitors forced the hosts into 33 turnovers while giving the ball away 20 times themselves.
Hall recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a game-high five steals. The freshman went 16-18 from the free throw line, marking the third-best single-game showing at the line in program history. Moro finished with five points and three blocked shots while
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) tallied four points. Acosta added four takeaways for the Giants, who shot just 20 percent from the field including a 1-9 showing from three-point range. The hosts, who held a 38-37 edge in rebounding, shot a solid, 84.6 percent from the charity stripe.
Keystone will make the short trip to Scranton on Saturday afternoon to take on Marywood University in a CSAC contest starting at 1:00 p.m.
